Yup, a very broad wink. Shame was on it, and a lot of rednecks today wish proverbially that they’d picked their own bleeping cotton.

Be that as it may, the excuse is gone, gone, gone. If black people wallow in self disrespect, whitey cannot force them to do otherwise.

And of course we have to keep in mind that today - black Americans have far more opportunity to educate and uplift themselves than blacks currently living in most areas in Africa. As horrible as slavery was, the American descendants of slaves are better off than the ones than many that stayed in Africa.

I do think that is what Michelle Obama was trying to say - but we can all do without the constant whining of how bad it was. It was terrible, it’s over - move on.

There’s a gracious God that allowed the evils to happen. But nobody has clean hands in this mortal coil. What we call original sin isn’t a convenient fiction; it’s real. We don’t even know how much of God’s grace we threw away until we encounter it once more.

Uh, Michelle (and other America haters), are you aware that they (the Chinese) have laws prohibiting (punishable by death by torture) the disclosure of how to make silk, prohibiting rescuing a drowning person, and limiting the number of children a family can have?

Anyhow... if we deal with the evils head on as best we can as they come, we will find that our lives have been tailored by God to shed sin and regain righteousness.

What Michele failed to mention is that those “laws”
were overturned 50 years ago by the very nation
she belongs to.

Well that is implicit in the word “were.”

However the Chinese might teach her a thing or two. 50 years ago they weren’t an economic powerhouse. “Miz Obama? We don’t wallow.”

Except that she did.

I wish I could tell the Chinese people that she does not represent Americans.

Good point about James Brown, but the fact remains that some laws were tilted against blacks until the early to mid sixties. Certainly, any motivated black person, even back then, would even have achieved big things. Whatever problems existed or did not exist years ago still do not negate the fact that struggling minority communities are caused by cultural reasons.....not by government structural reasons which is so highly embraced by the political left.

If and until the black community (and all communities of all colors and creeds for that matter) are truly challenged to stop making excuses and to start making progress, they will continue to languish in the shadows. I put this message out into the world everyday in the best way I can, but people would simply rather hear that ‘the man’ is keeping them down instead of ‘you’re keeping yourself down’. And, it doesn’t help that the political left is fighting my (the political right) message every chance they get.

The three fifths rule was not given to the south. This has always been misrepresented and some sort of disrespect to blacks when in fact it was a way to help them....yes, help them!!!

The north feared that if slaves were counted toward population, the south would have more representatives and therefore more voting power in congress and, by extension, more power to keep slavery in place. As a way to protect the slaves, the north initially insisted that slaves not be counted at all, but eventually compromised at 3/5 a person. You see?....less people in the south means less votes in the congress which means less power to dominate the north. Get it? Read your history!!!!!!

I knew that. The north didn’t want to count at all, the south wanted to count slaves so they could have more representation. The south wasn’t even going to agree to be a part of the union until they were given some representation by the slaves and that is how the 3/5th’s compromise was agree upon. I believe I posted something to that effect so don’t understand your comment “read your history”. So many armchair teachers on this thread. I read history constantly, and especially now that I have all this homework.
