A court in Egypt has sentenced to death 528 supporters of ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi.
They were convicted of charges including murdering a policeman and attacks on people and property.
The group is among some 1,200 Muslim Brotherhood supporters on trial, including senior members.
Authorities have cracked down harshly on Islamists since Mr Morsi was removed by the military in July. Hundreds have been killed and thousands arrested.
They are expected to appeal.
The verdict now goes to Egypt's supreme religious authority, the Grand Mufti (a senior Islamic scholar), for approval or rejection, says the BBC's Orla Guerin in Cairo.
Campaigners say that while death sentences are often handed down in Egypt, few have been carried out in recent years.
The final trial session will not be held until 28 April. so there is some time left before the sentence is confirmed and there will be time to appeal in that period, our correspondent adds

Every kangaroo court convicts people based on supposed “actions.” Convicting 528 people of murder in a two-day trial just screams politically-motivated show trial.
The Egyptian people and military wrested control of their country back from the Muslim Brotherhood, which was supported by the Obama administration to the hilt.
Obama still has Miuslim Brotherhood opertives in his White House. The press has gone silent on Egypt because the ugly truth would make their beloved leader not just look very wrong, but reveal hoim and the former ambassador to be complicit in the ugly thjings the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood was up to. Including events, IMHO, directly associated with Benghazi.

I wish I was, but that is where the facts lead to. Remember when it was “CRAZY!!!” to think that Soros was funding a shadow-party outside of Dem Party control?
They have successfully comprised the US Press, as well. They were more than willing to lead with the wildest conspiracies and rumors about Bush, or even Romney, but they remain silent, WILLINGLY, about what Obama and his minions, (in fact almost any Democrat), are doing.
After the election that Morsi allegedly won, the Egyptian court refused to ratify the results for some reasons (fraud?) and days ensued where things were in limbo while they tried to determine who won. Instead of letting the Egyptians sort things out, the MB-aligned obama administration spoke out and pressured them to decide in Morsi’s favor.
No one talks about this tidbit anymore but that is how I remember things happened.

I agree. This was a show trial only. The trial lasted one day for 147 defendants (the rest were convicted in absentia) with the second day for sentencing.
Active in the White House too, is it not? They must be deeply saddened.

I think you are not giving enough forethought to Obama.
Obama's basic core value is he believes in shifting power to the "people" and taking it from the establishment. Obama supports Islamic revolutions because they are popular among the citizenry, and he always opposes established leaders. This goes back to his Alinskyite community organizing days.
This naive bias of "the people" over "the powerful" sometimes leads to conundrums and disaster, especially when applied to a third-world model.
Obama wanted the Muslim Brotherhood to rule Egypt because he believed the Muslim Brotherhood was a noble, peaceful, reformed political movement which represented 100% of the Egyptian people. Any Egyptian who thought differently must be suspect. They could not be a legitimate part of "the people"--they must be a beneficiary of Mubarek's government. Likewise, and American who opposed or feared the Muslim Brotherhood must be a xenophobic racist who could not accept the Muslim Brotherhood was actually a reformed political party and not a terrorist organization.
It was exactly this thought which led the political left to support Mao against Chiang Kai-shek in China, and Khomeini against the Shah in Iran.
Remember, Alinsky did not believe in a small "d" democratic system, where the meek gain power though numbers and the ballot box. He believes in replacing the powerful overthrowing the powerful, where the new power simply gains the popular support of the people through organizing and propaganda, but is not responsible to them.
so, basically the newest Egyptian government is executing 528 of the people that Hosni Mubarak got in trouble for fighting?
