Malaysian authorities are assuming beyond a reasonable doubt that the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 has been lost in the Southern Indian Ocean. NBC News reports that Malaysia Airlines sent a text message to the relatives of the 239 people who were on board the plane saying "we have to assume beyond any reasonable doubt that MH370 has been lost and that none of those on board have survived. ... We must not accept all evidence suggests the plane went down in the Southern Indian Ocean."
Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak announced the new developments at a press conference on Monday.
"This evening, I was briefed by representatives from the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch they informed me that [satellite company] Inmarsat has been performing further calculations on the data using a type of analysis never before used in an investigation of this sort," he said. "They have been able to shed more light on MH370."
Razak continued: "[Investigators] have concluded that MH370 flew along the southern corridor and that its last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean west of Perth, [Australia]. This is a remote location far from any possible landing sites. It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that according to this new data, Flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean."
The U.S. Navy is now flying a black box detector to the area in hopes of recovering the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder. A U.S. Navy plane flying over the possible debris field detected two or three faint radar hits, according to NBC News reporter Bill Neely.

Sad for those people.
I guess the conspiracy theorists will have to go back to preaching to a very small choir.
Coming to terms with reality.
Should read:
“We must NOW accept all evidence suggests the plane went down in the Southern Indian Ocean.”
Until they find and confirm something from that plane, it’s a theory that the plane is where they are searching. I don’t trust the Malaysians.f
This two-minute phone-call to the pilot before he boarded the plane....from a phone chip that was purchased for one single call and then disappears...basically proves it was a conspiracy of sorts.
I don’t see anyone could ride on Malaysian Airways or visit the country....after this type of event.
No, unless someone can come up with some real evidence, conspiracy theories will get even more rampant.
You got that right. No way would I fly on any of those airlines in that area.
You don't understand how conspiracy theories work, do you?
;-)
I agree that the plane most likely crashed in the Indian Ocean, for whatever reason, but there’s still no evidence to support that this is what actually did happened.
CNN has the best coverage of this—which is too bad, but a fact. And the info the Malaysian PM cited was based on info from the UK—so that lends more credibility to his announcement that the plane was lost in the S. Indian ocean.
Not really. There’s no reasonable proof of their claim at all.
Just trying to sweep it under the rug and move on.
The satellite data didn’t come from the Malaysian government. It came from Inmarsat ...
INMARSAT (sp?) is the UK company that provided the satellite info re the plane’s position. Of course, the most definitive info will come if they recover a piece of debris that can link it to MH370.
not necessarily, if they do find the black box...
No matter what, just hope--for the sake of the families of those lost--that this info will be as conclusive as possible.

Heres the full text of that statement by Malaysian PM Najib Razak:
This evening I was briefed by representatives from the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB). They informed me that Inmarsat, the UK company that provided the satellite data which indicated the northern and southern corridors, has been performing further calculations on the data. Using a type of analysis never before used in an investigation of this sort, they have been able to shed more light on MH370s flight path.
Based on their new analysis, Inmarsat and the AAIB have concluded that MH370 flew along the southern corridor, and that its last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean, west of Perth.
This is a remote location, far from any possible landing sites. It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that, according to this new data, flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean.
We will be holding a press conference tomorrow with further details. In the meantime, we wanted to inform you of this new development at the earliest opportunity. We share this information out of a commitment to openness and respect for the families, two principles which have guided this investigation
Malaysia Airlines have already spoken to the families of the passengers and crew to inform them of this development. For them, the past few weeks have been heartbreaking; I know this news must be harder still. I urge the media to respect their privacy, and to allow them the space they need at this difficult time.
Was that true for United Airlines or American Airlines?
The credibility of the Maylay govt has been questionable to say the least.
