Isa Jabar, the village's mayor, says Chechnya donated $6 million for the mosque. He says some villagers trace their ancestry to 16th century Chechnya and the Caucus region.
Someone better get the word to Mayor Jabar. None of his villagers trace their ancestory to Chechnya any more than Arabia, Syria or Egypt. They've been there thousands of years, and know through family history there were never Jews in the neighborhood.

Israel has a common cause with Chechniya, as Chechins are flooding into northern Syria to fight the Syrian govt. A number of Chechin Muslims have even been given visas to live and work in Israel.
The Chechin alliance is one of those policies which is short-sighted and opportunist. The Israeli govt seems to think that only the neighbouring states will bear the consequences. Unlikely.
Assaad is probably less of a danger than the Muslim Brotherhood who are running the insurgency in Syria.
Whoever made that decision there should probably be fired and replaced by a sane person!
Chechens do not need any visas to travel in Israel.
