SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Health officials are recognizing 430 Illinois communities for maintaining state-mandated fluoride levels in drinking water.

The Illinois Department of Public Health presented the awards Monday in Springfield.

Health experts say drinking fluoridated water from birth can reduce tooth decay by up to 65 percent. The department's director, Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck, says fluoridation saves money for families and the health care system.

"Do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk, ice cream? Ice cream, Mandrake? Children's ice cream!...You know when fluoridation began?...1946. 1946, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh?

"It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual, and certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works."

Poisoning?

I had fluoride treatments for my teeth when I was very young. I've rarely ever had a cavity in 66 years.

Yes, too much of a good thing can cause harm, but you're way wrong.

Anyone who believe agencies are honestly worried about the public’s dental health that it justifies fluoridation is beyond debating.

That’s the point. They put it on your TEETH!

In the drinking water, it’s poison.

If you took the same flouride compounds they put in the municipal water supplies, and threw any amount into a river or stream, you’d be fined and thrown in jail for years.

Sodium fluoride used to be the active ingredient in some insecticides.
