Thai military radar data bolsters belief that Flight 370 changed its path

New information from the Thai government bolsters the belief that missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 took a sharp westward turn after communication was lost.

The Thai military was receiving normal flight path and communication data from the Boeing 777-200 on its planned March 8 route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing until 1:22 a.m., when it disappeared from its radar.

Six minutes later, the Thai military detected an unknown signal, a Royal Thai Air Force spokesman told CNN. This unknown aircraft, possibly Flight 370, was heading the opposite direction.

Malaysia says the evidence gathered so far suggests the plane was deliberately flown off course, turning west and traveling back over the Malay Peninsula and out into the Indian Ocean.

Curious as to what Freepers think of this. Given what we THINK the facts are, it raises two questions:

1) If this were pilot suicide, why change course at all to ditch in the Indian Ocean? Why not just turn right and dive right into the South China Sea?

2) If not, could the plan have been the Eastern Coast of Africa? Could they have made it that far? And could they have done so without Indian Military radar picking them up?

Considering that India and Pakistan hate each other, it would seem obvious that each country would say "the plane didn't cross our airspace" so as to avoid seeming vulnerable and admitting that something did pass through, but they didn't detect it at the time.

What thoughts do you have?

Twelve thousand feet versus two hundred feet of water?

Did the plane have enough fuel to make it to Yemen or Somalia?

That area of South China Sea/Gulf Thaaland is shallow - only about 40 meter (140 ft)

Too easy to find and recover the wreckage (Think TWA 800
off Long Island)

I get what you’re saying, but dead is dead. Who cares if they find you??

the life insurance company cares

If it can be proven to be suicide, maybe insurance benefits not paid. Has to look like a hijacking and wreckage be unrecoverable

No, on #1 and, no, on #2.

Why did I nix #2? Because of the military radar at Diego Garcia would see it. I thought it might go to Somalia, Yemen, or somewhere in that area but because of the military radar coverage in that area I decided against it.

I’m beginning to think it went north into the mountains to evade radar. Destination? Iran or possibly even Pakistan.

I think the government knows what happened but isn’t telling.

One theory is that they had an in-flight emergency and the turn was to get to the nearest good airport. However, things went from bad to worse and they were left heading past the airport and out into the Indian ocean.

And why 7 hours? I’m sure there is some deep water closer than that.

I’m of the opinion now that it probably headed north, then west, and into Pakistan, Afghanistan, or Iran(most likely).

I’ve had a bad feeling about this since the very first day. It made no sense. Really terrifying. I just want that plane found.

FWIW, this isn’t the only big plane that’s gone missing since 9/11. Have you seen this?

Sad to say, I hope it went into the ocean and isn’t now parked near to the missing 777, preparing for something nefarious pointed our way!
