650 mph? Isn’t that close to mach 1 at 30,000 ft? If they were going anywhere near that speed, wouldn’t that dramatically affect fuel consumption and range?

I know of no long-distance airliner that cruises at 650 MPH.
550 (airspeed) is much more common (not counting the Jetstream.)

That's an almost 20% exaggeration!
