City to end some police cooperation with immigration officials

'The pernicious impact" of federal immigration enforcement "on certain communities in Philadelphia" is pushing the city to curtail police cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Public Safety Director Michael Resnick said Wednesday.

At a City Council hearing packed to the balcony benches with immigrant-rights groups, Resnick said Mayor Nutter would soon sign an executive order barring police and prison officials from honoring immigration detainers except when a suspect in custody was previously convicted of a violent felony and ICE obtained a warrant to support the detainer request.

From top to bottom, government is growing more & more lawless every day.

At what point are we morally justified in refusing to be led by them?

Cory Booker, Christie and Jon Corzine were weak on immigration. 3 black teenagers were decapitated. Man Pleads Guilty to Newark Schoolyard Killings http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/g/rodolfo_godinez/ Melvin Jovel, 21, pleaded guilty to three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder in the 2007 attacks.

Yea, they’ve got to take positive steps before Philadelphia turns into an awful place.

Too late.

Usually the chiefs of police are the ones calling for ‘sanctuary city” status for illegals.
Here in the Twin Cities the police chiefs always claim it’s because that way the illegals won’t fear police and/or deportation and will help “solve crimes in the immigrant community”.
I have yet to hear of some major unsolved crime(s) solved thanks to illegal aliens here ,but have read plenty of crimes committed by illegal aliens here.

I’m not being critical because I agree, but what does that mean? What impact do you or I have on ICE or what the local police do? I agree government is verging on insane. In the most recent sheriff’s election the democratic opponent of our democratic sheriff(we only have democrats here) said, “I will immediately achieve racial balance in our prison.” When the current sheriff asked how, she said, “by immediately releasing 3/4 of the black inmates.” He replied, “You know, I’ll have to check to verify, but I think that might be illegal.” If I recall, she got 40% of the vote.

I guess it boils down to funding. Taxes.

But who wants to be the first that they make an example of.

Supporters, churches, have all said immigration is federal gov job in terms of immigration laws. Why doesn’t ice say don’t call us and we want call you.You have dangerous illegals you take care of it.. WE will butt out leaving you to find answers what to do about dangerous illegals in your state.Do not give us list what the local gov says ice can or cannot do with regard to illegals in your state... Should any illegal from your state end up in another state charged with serious crimes ,the gov will demand you take care of all legal fee’s and any granted awards from any court judgements.Do not call on us.You are on your own.

I just came across this thread and being one of the PA4ICE speakers for the minority at the City Council hearing that day I am posting the testimony from which the Inquirer chose to reconstruct, in the last paragraph of their story, the placement of my words that lead readers to believe something different than what I said, which follows:

The recent history of Western Civilization shows that usurpers of a peaceable, existing State almost always apply the same methods when they attempt to take control by using the law for their own advantage.

These methods, attributed to Marxist-socialist Antonio Gramsci, target Judeo-Christian values, the family, schools, unions, politics and popular trust in the existing government.

Carl Boggs, author of Gramsci’s Marxism, outlined ten steps to achieve a progressive Socialist Marxist civil society in America:

Change the popular consensus; destroy Christianity, the traditional family and existing social mores; transform the culture; install a radical Left mind-control; attain political power; impose strict control of the military and law enforcement; restrict freedom; socialize the economy; erase American sovereignty; and embrace a world without borders.

It appears we are well on the way to fulfilling Gramsci’s dream. Fortunately, we still have laws on the books we can use to resist this hidden effort to transform us into a Marxist-socialist state. We do concede the point those laws are useless if our elected officials continue to pretend they do not exist.

Illegal aliens and those who support and profit from their presence should be reminded that Federal law Title 8 Section 1324 U.S. Code still exists and it stipulates that aiding, abetting, encouraging, harboring, transporting, and hiring illegal aliens is a felony.

When our elected representatives at any level yield to requests for more and more concessions by Leftist based human rights groups, they are aiding and abetting the transformation of our Nation into a clone of the lawless and corrupt countries many illegal aliens left behind.

When our elected representatives, at any level, yield to demands that weaken the laws in place to protect the citizens who elected them, those elected representatives have turned their backs on their constituents.

Accommodating those who violate our laws only encourages more lawlessness; it also marks those charged with defending the Rule of Law, but who have chosen to abandon their duty, even incrementally, with the same stain of treachery as those conspiring against it.
