dont care about expanding the party, only about winning elections. Pick your battles. But if you care about winning elections, you might want to expand the party.
Obamacare was a huge gift to Republicans, but the Democrats don't make those sorts of political mistakes very often.
One of the biggest things holding back Republicans politically is the idea that they want some national theocracy. That's unfair, but something must be done to tell the rest of the country that Republicans can handle differences of opinion on social issues.
I think for Rand Paul that means letting states decide what their mores will be and de-nationalizing social issues.

But if you care about winning elections, you might want to expand the party. And you can't win elections by pushing away people that agree with you on more issues than your opposition.
So, they vote for your opposition instead, and your response is to complain because they won't support you.

Anyone putting their politics above their God isn't fit to lead.
The founders made very clear in their personal writings that the form of government they gave us was for a Christian nation and would fail if this nation turned it's back on God.
Can there be any doubt that the Christian Founders we had, if they had known that the Citizens of the United States would seriously consider or allow their government to sanction the murder of their unborn babies (Abortion) or the marriage of queers/deviants of the same sex that they would not have included Amendments to the constitution forbidding both practices?
This wasn't even on their "radar" as it was inconceivable to them that this could even occur.
Trying to push this to States-rights issue is the path of cowards and is doomed to failure with unscrupulous activist Judges and A Supreme Court filled with jurists that believe they can force us to buy health insurance coupled with the 14th Amendments Equal Protection Clause (The Equal Protection Clause is part of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. The clause, which took effect in 1868, provides that no state shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction "the equal protection of the laws").
Rand Paul knows this as well, but willing to wrap himself in a pretend conservative mantel called States Rights, he is willing to let Pervert Marriage be implement, because he knows eventually, that if it is allowed to be a States Rights issue, eventually, the Feds will employ the Equal Protection Clause to state all States have to allow Gay Marriage.
