“Unless the passengers aboard were dead”

Seems like if the passengers were alive and there was a hijacking for 4 hours some of them would try to call on their cell phones. Would cell phones work over the ocean like that?

It just so happened that a friend of mine in Houston related to me this morning that she inadvertently called her friend whom she thought was at home in Houston.

It happened that this friend was not at home but traveling by bus in a group of American pilgrims in Rome, Italy. She was told not to call again but wait until she got back to Houston.

I don’t know what type of phone she used and I didn’t ask.
