"The Five" are for legalizing Marijuana
March 13, 2014

Posted on 03/12/2014 3:19:06 PM PDT by NKP_Vet

Was just watching the show and they played a clip of Rick Perry saying that Texas has lowered fines for first time offense for marijuana use. So far he has not said he would legalize it. So the members went around the table and all but Beckel (recovering addict) said they were for legalizing marijuana. Dana Pirino said Texas might as well legalize it because Texans are coming into Colorado to legally smoke the stuff. She also said that if a republican wants to get a hand in an audience full of hipsters all they have to say is they are for legalizing marijuana. Guess that's the in thing now with some of these RINOs. They can all say they are "libertarian" when it comes to frying your brains on dope. So that's Gillfoyle, Pirino, the midget Gutfeld and Mr. Perfect Bohling, all saying they want to see more dope legalized. I'll post the link as soon as it's out. All four of this fakes call themselves conservatives. Prety bad when lefty Bob Beckel take the conservative position on legalizing dope.

I had second thoughts on legalization when I realized the WODs caused as many, if not more problems that the drugs themselves.

I use this example:

Liquor stores are frequently robbed but rarely(if ever) are they held up to get liquor. However the robbers often hit these stores to get money to support their drug habits.

And they need to do this because their drug of choice is artifically high.

Why?

Because the government, by it's prohibition of the trade has driven it to the Black Market that then sets the price according to the risk the seller/buyer is willing to trade.

Drugs otherwise would be as cheap as untaxed liquor or cigarettes, plus the cost of production, transportation, etc.

Crime used to support their drug habit would go down. So fewer little old ladies would get beaten and robbed of their social security checks and less prisons cells filled.

Thanks for your answer. Now, if the Federal government has authority to regulate it, what part of the Constitution is that power derived from?

As for your question, yes I do think it is important to discourage drug use in our society, for all sorts of reasons, but just because it is important, that doesn’t mean the Federal government has any business getting involved.

Does the fact that something might encourage a particular political tendency somehow give the Federal government a right to regulate that thing?

Goodbye NASCAR and country music!

Yes, good question. I think it’s important to narrow the question down to the Federal government though, because the states have a lot more leeway than the Feds as to what they can regulate. We can tolerate that easier because at least we can move to another state if some choose to go too far.

Get enough dope in your system and you won't be standing up for anything. Think it's good for you? Down a quart of Prestone. Sweet dreams, Toots.

Get enough liquor in ya and you won't be standing either.

Don't know what "lentulusgracchus" meant by that but during Prohibition, the dicier "bathtub gin" was cut with antifreeze, which killed/ blinded many of the poor hardcore alcoholics

Maybe he's/she's arguing to outlaw alcohol as well./sarc

Yes, if a particular behavior directly and negatively affects the future of our nation and out people ; absolutely .

And WHO gets to decide WHAT is "negative behavior"?

Michele Obama and obesity?

Andrew Cuomo and Conservative pro-lifers?

Who gets to run the Department of Truth?

Yeah, I know you’re talking about these days. And you don’t seem to get it. Delete every drug law on the books like it was around 1900, and your feared and heavily armed drug cartel from south of the border vanishes. It fades away like a bad fart. It also means no big grow ops in the forests and parks.

so true but we cannot go back , there is no going back . All we have is now .

Ask any smoker you know “who did you vote for in 08 and 12 ?”
If they bothered to vote at all....

America has to stop be so p/c . Go after the non-US Hispanics and other drug dealers with extrajudicial avengeance , and chill on the local hippies .
TEACH the kids ; don’t be afraid to tell them up front that drugs do mess up your life and often by the time they figure that our for themselves it’s too late .
Show them examples , make it real , not BS

Bullshit. I give you the states of Colorado and Washington. They are the first of what will be many states that are finally starting to turn their backs on the failed drug war. If the fine people of texas and other border states want to continue being cannon fodder and ground zero for big brother's failed, unconstitutional drug war, so be it.

Well, that may be, but I don’t approve of the Federal government doing things beyond their current Constitutional authority. If there is something they should be doing that they don’t have authority for, then we need to amend the Constitution, not ignore it.

Hemp makes great rope , twine , birdseed and clothes . Keep it within its best intended purpose , not as a gateway drug to licentiousness and unbridled hedonism .

Not so fast, my friend! (as Lee Corso says) One can enjoy an adult beverage without getting buzzed or drunk. The sole purpose of drugs is to change the brain and mood of the user.

Studies show that heavy marijuana users, particularly those who use it in their teen years, have a high rate of psychological problems, such as schizophrenia, later. It also seems to destroy a person’s drive and ambition.

I find it funny that the people (mostly liberals) who are out to rid the world of cigarette smoking don’t seem to think anything is wrong with smoking a joint. Doesn’t that harm the lungs, too?

And, yes, marijuana has been shown to be a gateway drug. I think we have enough impaired drivers and loonies on the loose without legalizing drugs.
