Mystery Malaysia flight may have been hundreds of miles off course (CNN Breaking)
CNN ^ | 3-11-2014 | Michael Pearson and Jethro Mullen

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was hundreds of miles off course, traveling in the opposite direction from its original destination and had stopped sending identifying transponder codes before it disappeared, a senior Malaysian Air Force official told CNN Tuesday.

If correct, these are ominous signs that could call into question whether someone in the cockpit might have deliberately steered the plane away from its intended destination, a former U.S. aviation investigator said.

"This kind of deviation in course is simply inexplicable," said Paul Goelz, former managing director of the National Transportation Safety Board.

(snip) The Malaysian Air Force lost track of the plane over Pulau Perak, a tiny island in the Straits of Malacca -- many hundreds of miles from the usual flight path for aircraft traveling between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing, the official said.

Wasn’t it being reported that one of the stolen passport individuals looked like a well known “Black” soccer star? Where did that come from? Are there more than these 2?

This story is bizarre and scary.

Seems like a twist and a turn every 5 seconds with this story. No pun intended. This is all very strange.

Clearly big enough and paved. However seems to be a lot there in the area close to the runway, including a large group of homes. I would think people there would have heard a jet aircraft landing in the middle of the night. And someone would have had to operate the landing strip lights.

Then do you find the article that you posted particularly reliable, without hearing from the cell phone company?

With nobody taking credit for anything anywhere, it’s starting to look like either we or Malaysia shot it down. Targets either DG or the Twin Towers in Kuala Lampur.

I'm still going with this version: The flight was tracked across Malaysia and intercepted by the Malaysian Air Force over the Straits of Malacca. The plane was repeatedly ordered to land. Whoever was in control of the cockpit ignored the order and the plane suddenly began to turn south toward Kuala Lumpur. Malaysian Air Force pilots receive a shootdown order, to avert a possible suicide attack on KL. 777 disappears from radar. No information is released, as the Malaysian government and others are trying to figure out how to tell the story without inflicting a massive hit on commercial air travel around the globe.

Now if this happened, someone probably saw something, and the Malaysian navy almost certainly knows where the wreckage is.

Maybe they’re waiting to take credit after they turn it into a giant missle.

I dunno. And I’m in R&D. Of course, if I knew and told you, I’d have to kill you. What kind of super-secret stuff?

Well, without the cell phone provider coming our with data, we can only go with what previous procedures go when it comes to cell service, as for ring procedures.

Nothing specific, just fevered speculation, which seems to order of the day.

I do a lot of total dose radiation testing of various parts for satellites, don’t think ever did any of your stuff.

"I started thinking that the public is being prepared for something.. I started thinking yesterday that the authorities pretty much know what happened."

What story would you rather hear. It was terrorists or that the plane had so many problems it just fell to pieces? I have flown only 3 times and have never got on another plane when after reaching altitude leaving Los Angeles we dropped 1000's of feet instantly and I looked out the window and saw a needle nose Jet had been coming right at us.

It’s either your theory or the Diego Garcia theory, in my mind.

Or, Somalia pirates bragging rights if they landed it there and now are asking for bids to return the passengers. THAT we would not hear about.

No information is released, as the Malaysian government and others are trying to figure out how to tell the story without inflicting a massive hit on commercial air travel around the globe.

Isn't it the same effect on commercial air travel if terrorists hijack the aircraft and crash it into the ocean as opposed to being shot down? In other words, once it is clear that terrorists hijacked it, then the concern about air travel arises.

I think it is pretty evident that if someone disabled the transponder and flew the aircraft hundreds of miles in a different direction, then the plane was hijacked (and if not by a third party then by the pilots themselves).

If that's the case, not admitting they shot it down doesn't seem to serve a purpose.

Interesting. But while all this was going on, wouldn't those on the flight deck be squawking to ATC and anyone else on various frequencies?

Would no one hear the exchanges and radio chatter?

Well, I’ve been hoping it is a Somali scenario, because then we can ransom those folks back.
