Just try to get a puppy through Great Dane Rescue. You have to go through a similarly brutal background check and home inspection, plus paying a fee of about $500. Even then, it seems only the real insiders are able to get puppies. That happened to me about three years ago, so I went out and bought a puppy for just about the same amount. This ordinance is really silly and destructive because it throws out the baby with the bath water. If they're going to regulate the pet store business, why not just require the stores to prove they acquired their puppies and kittens from reputable breeders?
