Sounds like she only cares about them for the money they can provide her.
Parents are not a cash cow.
Too bad, girl. You don’t want to be under their authority?
Suck it up. Make your own way without them.
The minute I heard about this story I felt the need to pray for all involved, especially the young lady. She is making decisions that could leave a permanent wedge between her and her parents. From what I understand, she is their only child? I pray for healing for all involved. The other seasoned adults in this story should be ashamed of themselves for encouraging this kind of behavior.
“Her willful failure to live in concert with her family and their rules and lifestyle, her defiance in seeking to live with her boyfriend’s family then her friend’s family and her alienation of her parents clearly demonstrates that she refuses to live within their sphere of influence,” Rush-Masuret writes.
What’s in it for the “Good Guy” lawyer footing the bills for this brat - oh wait never mind sorry I asked but I’m sure that his wife is just thrilled to death with the arrangement. They house her, feed her, transport her and pay for her legal bills, yea I’m sure the “Good Guy’s” wife is really, really thrilled.
Waddya bet she has the latest smart phone.
Whenever my teenager girlfriend tried to stay with us because their parents were: pick one, mean, cruel, too demanding, strict, controlling, whatever...
One call to the parents solved the problem....
"Come get your brat and work out the problems"...
Never failed to work...
The father who is footing her legal bills and expenses is a idiot beyond understanding...
Something seems off about this whole deal. A very lib parent upset his kid shacks up? A lawyer housing the kid? Well not kid...adult. 18 is adult.
The only think that does not shock me is a child raised by a liberal ‘feels’ entitled.
All the above said, I have known a couple people in my life with helicopter parents that were utterly convinced that they had final say in all aspects of their ‘married with children’ (no not THAT Married with Children ;) offspring’s lives. And those offspring were in their 30s and moderately successful.
Final call: 1: Parents are not financially responsible. 2: Kid is old enough to make her decisions and live with them. 3: Parents are likely why the kid is hosed to begin with. 4: Liberalism destroys families.

Christie SCHOOL FUNDING task force lawyer teen suing parents ...
The prominent New Jersey attorney who is funding the legal costs of 18-year-old Morris Catholic High School senior Rachel Canning in her lawsuit against her own parents serves on Gov. Chris Christies School Funding Task Force.
The next 6 weeks until the April 22 hearing will be interesting to watch.
Mr Inglesino who Rachel is living with has now heard from the judge that there will be no money coming her and thus his way — no reimbursement for legal fees or for her living expenses.
So then at what point is he now going to kick her to the curb???
IS 18 an adult OR NOT?
Rachel Canning, if you want your parents to pay for your education, would you obey their rules? I bet you wouldn’t.
I sincerely hope these parents have children besides this disrespectful brat.
If I ever sued my parents like this when I was 18 years old, they'd end up scraping off the driveway with a spatula after I got my @ss kicked by the rest of the family. LOL.
I think we may have found the new pinnacle in ENTITLEMENT attitude by today’s ‘children’.
She doesn’t want to follow the house rules, but she wants to live on THEIR money.
First—NO ONE in my senior high school class would have even thought to make such demands.
Second- we would have been handed out clothes, books, the car keys taken, and we would have been escorted to the road-—we lived rural. We would NOT be allowed to return.
Telling kids that their parents have to cover them with health insurance is just plain wrong. Some kids apparently think that they can make other demands.
When I was 26, I had been out of high school for 9 years, and I had moved into my own house—which I BOUGHT. I had worked during all those years.
I was making about $7.50 an hour & the house payment was exactly ONE DOLLAR more than the rent on the apartment I was in.
I have owned my own homes ever since——almost 48 years now.
I would have told this ungrateful wretch of a kid to never darken my door again——EVER. She deserves nothing from my efforts. IF I have done the best I can & she turns on me like a rattlesnake-—she can keep on going.
I wonder what kind of parent she will be & what her kids will do against her???
Li’l B-Rat.
Three words: Get a job.
The story continues....
2. It involves “Age of Majority” issues. So many different ages seem to apply, 18 - old enough to do most things without parental consent. No need for emancipation. Old enough to enlist or be drafted in the military. Old enough to be tried as an adult. 21 - old enough to buy alcohol and cigarettes. 26 - “Kids” up to 26 can be included on parent's Obamacare policy.
3. “Parental Authority” - to what degree can parents establish rules, including respectful behavior, chores, curfews, etc., and when do those parental rights terminate?
4. “Parental Obligation to Support” - which ties into No. 2 above - at what age does this obligation end?
5. “Mandatory College Support” - this is a married couple. What rights do they have over college choice and support, considering unwed or divorced parents have no say and must pay.
6. “Good Samaritan” - if there is an obligation to support is there a concomitant obligation for the friend's father (who is funding the suit) to have sought permission to allow the girl to live with him?
Also of note:
A. Friend's father is a county Freeholder who supports the idea of parents supporting the child in college; because as he says, the parents put away college funds for the child and she should be “entitled” to it.
Sean Canning said that a DCP&P representative visited his home for about three hours last fall, found nothing amiss, determined that Rachel was spoiled and discontinued the investigation. He said that he and his wife are beside themselves that discord with their daughter has reached this level.
B. Girl has history of mental problems, is on meds, and doesn't take her meds when she's supposed to.
Parent's attorney Rush-Masuret and Sean Canning said that Rachel was seeing a therapist long before moving out and is supposed to take medication. The parents contend she had disciplinary problems at school last term, was suspended twice, ignored her curfew at home and bullied her younger sister.
