When Erlin Gomez saw police officers in front of his apartment complex on the afternoon of Sept. 11, 2013, he parked his car and considered his options.
Gomez suspected the cluster of cops and unmarked cars blocking the gate to the heavily Latino complex was a checkpoint, designed to catch undocumented immigrants. In Jefferson Parish, a county just outside New Orleans, such encounters with local police and federal immigration agents had become common, according to Gomez and many in the growing immigrant community.
But Gomez, a 28-year-old undocumented immigrant from Honduras who arrived in Louisiana in 2006, had to take his chances.
Gomez got out of his car and walked toward the gate. A police officer intercepted him and asked for his ID and apartment number. "I said I didn't want to tell him," recalled Gomez, who’d already been deported once.
The officer responded by slipping handcuffs around Gomez’s wrists. Then another man, who Gomez learned was a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, brought him to a vehicle. Inside sat a small fingerprinting device that would instantly check his fingerprints against multiple biometric databases.

illegals think being deported,being arrested for driving without licenses are non criminal offenses.
One cannot go too far in deporting invaders who are corrupting our laws, sucking the taxpayers substance, and entering into positions of authority in our governments. Citizens should be deputized and sent out on the streets rounding them up and loading them onto buses, trains, semi trucks and giving the rest comfortable walking shoes. If they resist, well then we do what we have to do.
Why would they? Our own elected officials refuse to refer to them as criminals. In fact, they're enticing them to come here. The only thing the political elite in America have failed to do is pay their way in....every other action they've taken, be it failure to enforce the law, failure to guard the border sufficiently, providing them with benefits and touting amnesty is tantamount to an invitation. The few that are caught and held in detention are nothing more than a dog and pony show for Americans.
No kidding...they are ALWAYS INNOCENT. Many Americans are getting arrested for jaywalk and other misdemeanor offenses but they have the RIGHT TO EXIST IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY....IA’s are not our jurisdiction!
The use of “immigrants” is telling. I am sure the news editor just forgot ILLEGAL in front of the word.
It’s like saying “urban youth” for black criminals or “youth” for rioting muslims.
Hopefully Governor Vitter can expand this operation and no more welcome prizes.
Seriously, that is the legal term.
Any other term is a political term not a legal term.
If you are a non-citizen in the US you are formally classified as an “alien.”
If you are living here legally then you are a “Resident Alien.”
If you are here illegally, then you are an “Illegal Alien.”
Just for those that didn't know. . . .
Part of the problem. If you can speak the lingo, you probably can't read the traffic signs.
