The Man-Made California Drought

California’s San Joaquin Valley is the salad bowl of the world, providing the majority of fruits and vegetables for the entire nation. But, with another man-made drought looming, the San Joaquin Valley is in danger of becoming a dust bowl unless immediate action is taken to change policies that put the needs of fish above the livelihood of people.

House Republicans have a bipartisan, comprehensive solution to end future man-made droughts, bring job and water supply certainty to the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys in California and decrease reliance on foreign food sources.

Get the Facts:

California’s water storage and transportation system designed by federal and state governments includes 1,200 miles of canals and nearly 50 reservoirs that provide water to about 22 million people and irrigate about four million acres of land throughout the state.

In May 2007, a Federal District Court Judge ruled that increased amounts of water had to be re-allocated towards protecting the Delta smelt – a three-inch fish on the Endangered Species List.

Because of this ruling, in 2009 and 2010 more than 300 billion gallons (or 1 million acre-feet) of water were diverted away from farmers in the Central Valley and into the San Francisco Bay – eventually going out into the Pacific Ocean.

This man-made drought cost thousands of farm workers their jobs, inflicted up to 40 percent unemployment in certain communities, and fallowed hundreds of thousands of acres of fertile farmland.

Unemployment remains at a regional average of 17%. With current precipitation at near-record lows, the same regulations will be imposed pushing unemployment even higher.

The Pelosi-led Congress did nothing to reverse the plight of the San Joaquin Valley and even obstructed repeated Republican actions to reverse the situation. The Sacramento-San Joaquin Valley Water Reliability Act reflects Republican promises to avoid another...

This is exactly why UN Agenda 21 wants to take over all water rights.

The Delta smelt is not native to the area and should not be protected.

In Missouri the MDC has introduced elk to a part of the state in which they never existed.

Once a population is established they will use the presence of the elk to prohibit further development.

This drought is not the longest or the worst in California’s history, nor is it man made. But rather than spending money on something Californians could really use, like desalination plants, our leadership under governor moonbeam wants to build a high speed rail system to nowhere anybody wants to go.

The lack of water for our local agriculture is definitely man made. A Federal District Court Judge shut down the pumps supplying the water. Obama and the Democrats are ensuring the farmers get zero water. Californians paid for the water system via revenue bonds and the users pay for the water. A federal judge overstepped his bounds and shut it down for political purposes.

1. The smelt is an excuse;

2. By withholding water thus rendering the land unproductive income for the present landowners are reduced or eliminated;

3. Taxes and expenses will not be reduced or abated;

4. With reduced or eliminated income the landowners will be faced with ever accumulating taxes and fees that they are unable to pay:

5. An inability to pay taxes and fees will result in liens, seizures and forced sales at greatly reduced prices; 6. The politician's favorites will buy the properties at low fire sale prices;

7. Bingo! New owners.

8. The primary question being WHO will be the new owners? Mexican interests? People whose name we may not mention? Chinese? Hindu's?

Jim you are absolutely right about that! I apologize if I missed your point, it’s just that the enviro nuts have been pushing this “unprecedented, historical” drought B.S. again. It’s been years, but I used to drive from O.C. to Silicon Valley for work and even then I passing farms and orchards turned to dust over ridiculous little fish. Jobs lost, food prices raised because of enviro nazis.

Absolutely correct. Does anyone think the godless liberal/progressive/socialist democrats, aka communist/fascist totalitarians really care about the smelt? Or the spotted owl? Or the shrimp or frogs? Or the gays? Or the blacks? Or the illegals? Or the planet?

Communist/fascist totalitarians care about one thing only. POWER!

The democrat workers and voters and people who may actually care about some of these things are simply useful idiots. Tools and fools. Right up to and including Obama.

You and yours live in that area please keep your eye on who is selling and buying large farms and/or acreage. I'm pretty sure what is going on in the Valley is a land transfer scheme. I knew a lady who owned-through her deceased husband-160 acres of Malibu land. One day she gets a notice of a tax hike-this was before Prop 13-and of the fact she cannot develop the land. She was forced to sell it at fire sale prices. The people who purchased it were politically connected and were able to develop the land making Many millions.

If I were governor I would open the gates and bring water to the Valley I would have the attorney general secure a restraining order on the EPA and sue the enviros for interference with the states agriculture

If threatened by EPA I would put the Cali National Guard on standby
