The reality is that government doesn’t deal with non-routine things well. They’re good at extracting every last dime of “revenue” from the citizens, and they’re equally adept at squandering said revenue, but as far as doing things that actually help anyone except their beloved parasite class, they don’t know how.

Government is always more concerned about perception than results... As long as they “do something” and look good, they are satisfied... a very low bar indeed...
