Most of it is cynical posturing for the masses. Although I do believe his hatred of the EU, gays, Jews, and Muslims is on the level. He's an old-school fascist strongman like Mussolini.

Didn't mean to imply that you, personally were fawning over him. More of a general warning to social conservatives not to get taken in by his moral jingoism. He uses moralistic pretense to whip up public fervor against political enemies.

One reason, though certainly not the only one, might be that he realizes the demographic collapse that is likely to occur if Russians don't begin procreating and raising more children within families. Homosexuality, promiscuity, and rampant abortion are already having the effect of shrinking the Russian population, and Putin, for all of his tyrannical bent, understands this.
