ANYTHING negative is considered to be defamatory under Ontario defamation law.
One of the posts that was held against us was by an anonymous poster who used a made-up word from South Park.
I am sorry that free speech is dead in Canada. We need to redouble our efforts to keep it alive in the US.
that’s beyond crazy! and it seems the Ontario defamation law is nuts too. You might as well put the entire province in jail since someone might say something nasty about someone else.... I used to visit your site on occasion just to see what was going on in the Canadian world.
If it weren't you posting the above and it were someone else, I'd tell them to go spread their B.S. walking.
Instead I'm left to shake my head and think Canada is lost. Not that we're much better off here in the U.S. mind you ....
So sorry for what you've one through .... beyond that I'm just speechless.
So theoretically anyone who doesn't like a particular site could post ‘defamatory’ comments on that site and get it shut down? With that approach in place, it would be relatively easy to put together organized efforts to control opinion on the internet.
If a significant number of people started anonymously posting these kinds of ‘defamatory’ comments on sites all over the internet, the system might become inundated with complaints, and maybe then the courts and legislature would reconsider the law and their approach to free speech.
Communism.
