I could tell that McKay rubbed off on Spurrier for that one year Spurrier played for him in Tampa.
When MacKay was at USC there was a coaches’ press breakfast every Monday morning during the season. The LA Times sports section carried a report. The other coaches (Rams, UCLA etc) did about 15 minutes each including questions and MacKay took up to an hour. Everybody wanted to hear him, including the other coaches.
