This is why I always lecture people to NOT USE BANK DEBIT cards, but still many refuse to listen and use them.
Credit cards are king, but if you cant get one cos of bad credit then pay in cash.

Had a co-worker a few years ago lose ~$15k that way. I believe it was all eventually fixed, but it took many, many months.
Normally, you can use it as a debit card or a credit card (assuming you have one of the cards that has “Visa” or some other logo on the side) and it’s much safer. However, I do that but apparently because I had a Target account, even that was compromised.
I think these people should be taken out and shot at dawn. Plus, you know most of the money they steal goes either to support terrorism or to the Russian or Chinese mobs.
I use a debit card almost exclusively, even at fast food.
Very convenient, and safe. My bank has guaranteed that us debit card users will receive the same treatment afforded to CC users as far as fraudulent use.
It’s a small, local bank, and I do check my activity every morning during breakfast.
I’m not a security expert, but it looks like I don’t suffer any more risk than those who pay by check, as those are also processed electronically.
