Neighbors described the 91-year-old Fort Lee woman who lay unconscious as lane closures at the George Washington Bridge delayed first responders from attending to her as a private, as a religious person.
A letter from the borough's EMS coordinator to the mayor said, in at least four instances, that emergency officials were snarled by traffic in responding to calls, including to one on Harvard Place involving an elderly woman who later died.
The letter from EMS coordinator Paul Favia, to Mayor Mark Sokolich, said the call involving the elderly woman, who was in cardiac arrest, came in at 8:43 a.m. on Sept. 9, the first day of the lane closures.
The woman was later pronounced dead at Englewood Hospital. Favia did not attribute her death to traffic, but, he wrote, "I would also like it to be noted that paramedics were delayed due to heavy traffic on Fort Lee Road."
Neighbors identified that woman as Florence Genova, a widow with two children who lived out of state.

Longer if a vindictive politician isn't involved.
“Neighbors described the 91-year-old Fort Lee woman who lay unconscious as lane closures at the George Washington Bridge delayed first responders from attending to her as a private, as a religious person.”
The above, exactly as published, is incoherent.
This whole thing is nonsense, total fake manufactured scandal.
Christie, though, showed what a spineless, spiteful, cowardly mealy-mouth he is in the wake of this fake scandal.
Well said! Ain't it the truth....these nits put a COMMUNIST in the White House...and this Communist brought Socialist and more communist pals with him....
The lady was 91. She very well might have died without a traffic jam.
Wonder if they know Richard Feder?
One question: if the woman was critically ill—and traffic was snarled on the GWB, as it often is—why wasn’t a helicopter dispatched, instead of an ambulance?

The life flight service at the link is based in Newark, with four helos and flight crews available around the clock.
I don’t have any sympathy for Christie, but you have to wonder at the American press response. Big story about how Obama doesn’t care about Afghanistan and our Soldiers who are dying there under his command, and this is what they write about. Amazing.
Could it have anything to do with the fact that the Cristy regime made it a point not to tell them the lanes were closed?
Ah, the law of unintended consequences. Tragic and unnecessary.
It’s always something...
At this point, what difference does it make
I do not see this scandal as being “fake” in the least. I think it is a huge scandal (a BFD as Joe Biden would say) for government to intentionally delay the movement of citizens along the public roads for political purposes. And that is exactly what the emails show happened here, open and shut. What Christie knew & when remains to be seen. We do know that he appointed the deputy chief of staff and the guy at the Port Authority both of whom are shown by the emails to clearly be part of this scheme.
:)
Traffic reports were as close as the radio in the ambulance; WCBS-AM in New York (all news station) has traffic updates every 10 minutes, as does its sister station, WINS. Traffic conditions at the GWB are highlighted in almost every update; if the ambulance crew was dispatched (and ran into a back-up), their dispatcher should have requested Life Flight transport.
I have no affection for Chris Christie and his minions. But if an ambulance can’t get to a critically-ill patient—and a helicopter can—you call the chopper.
Thanks for your comment.
I agree. I was referring to the use of the old woman and other emotional demagoguery.
I read more and think that the use of State power for such purposes, ie let’s mess upntheir traffic, is a huge abuse of power and corrupt.
It is clear from their own communications that they did do that.
