White House offers 'grand bargain' on tax cuts and infrastructure
NBC ^ | Sun Jan 5, 2014 | Tom Curry, National Affairs Writer, NBC News

Gene Sperling, the director of President Barack Obama’s National Economic Council, said Sunday that Obama is offering congressional Republicans “a grand bargain on jobs. He has said he would be willing to do corporate tax reform that lowers rates to 28 percent, simplifies taxes for small businesses, but do it together with a major infrastructure investment.”

In his budget proposal last year, Obama called for $50 billion in additional short-term federal spending on infrastructure projects such as bridges, highways, and mass transit systems, as well as creation of a National Infrastructure Bank to make loans to such projects.

“The economy is improving” and “we’ve had a lot of momentum,” Sperling said on NBC’s Meet the Press, but there are still “people who are desperately looking for work.” He said, “We have to admit – and we do admit -- that the worst legacy of this great recession is the crisis of long-term unemployment.”

The last billions spent on infrastructure didn’t accomplish much, why would more money wasted on unions and Democrat districts work any better?

Republicans should push for more, like the Keystone pipeline, repeal of Obamacare, tax breaks and deregulation to help small businesses, and independent committee appointed by Congress to oversee any further federal funds spent on infrastructure or centralized stimulus schemes, including QE3 to stimulate Wall Street bankers.

All of this is new agenda talk is designed to take the focus off of Obamacare, which is a total failure and disaster for all but the most wealthy, and those who contribute nothing to it. If Obamacare isn’t repealed, nothing that is done to stimulate the economy will help average Americans overcome the impossible burden of Obamacare.

Hey Stupid Party!! Here's the problem: TAX CUTS GOOD! "Infrastructure Investment" -- NOT GOOD. Why? Because there's been ZERO accountability for the $800 BILLION Dollars Obama's already blown on "shovel ready" projects.

WHERE DID THAT MONEY GO? IT PRODUCED ZERO JOBS, AND THERE'S BEEN ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THE WASTE, FRAUD AND ABUSE COMMITTED WITH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE'S MONEY!!!

Or maybe its a corporate tax rate where you can’t reduce your taxes using deductions

28% Really?

How about 19% like the Czech Republic, no deductions, one flat rate, and your entire business return fits on a postcard.

Better yet make the Corp / Business Rate the same as Dividends and Capital Gains, make them all 15%.

Nah, that is too simple, no finagling, K-Street Vulture involvement, and no attorneys needed, it makes to much common sense!

There ARE some “infrastructure” developments which add value and are potentially worth doing, but I agree that there is near zero chance that they are what he is talking about.

It is true, and I wish more here would accept it, that our average IQ workers need stuff to do, and that if they don’t have stuff to do, we are facing a bleak future on many fronts.

As improbable as it seems, tunneling I-93 under Boston was worth doing and employed lots of guys for a long time. If the government had the balls to do the necessary takings of large estates in Fairfield and Westchester Counties, a TGV line from Boston to NYC with only two angle turns (Providence and New London) would create value and employ lots of guys for a long time. I’m sure there are over useful things to do in other parts of the country - oil and gas come to mind, mining, improved fisheries, steel mills and processing, all could take OPM “investment” to grow and employ Americans.

I agree completely that the organized crime syndicate known as Congress is incapable of doing any of these things. But it’s nice to think about them.

“Amazingly smart and unexpected. The GOP needs to be very careful here.”

Actually, the businesses that need the mot help and the ones that create the most jobs are SUBS’s and LLC’s. This does nothing for them...

Here is an intersection with eight brand new handicap ramps equipped with bumps so blind people won’t wander into traffic. The only problem is that they don’t go anywhere. You can cross the streets, but you wind up back where you started.

This is what obama’s stumulus has given us.

“...tunneling I-93 under Boston was worth doing...”

Then Boston or Massachusetts should have paid for it.

Oh sure, this sounds great. Team Obama has been REMARKABLY reliable in enforcing the law, keeping their promises and following the directives of Congress. Sure.

Oh, and monkeys might fly out of my butt.

Who in their right mind thinks these clowns occupying the executive branch are about to follow through on their promises? Who?

Lie, obfuscate, and distract. The idiocy of Obamacare is enough garbage for the American public to have to fight through and get rid of...forget any “promises” this jerk makes for the next three years.

And someone get Sperling the smelling salts. The economy is not getting better.

President Obama, for the past five years you have been spending that $700 BILLION stimulus package via CRs. That bloody stimulus bill was for infrastructure. In reality only 5% was targeted for infrastructure. Now you want more money to allocate to your union and ACORN buddies. I say NO!

as well as creation of a National Infrastructure Bank to make loans to such projects

So who funds this "bank"? Taxpayers?

A Gov't run bank? And who are the favorites who will pick and choose the projects? This stinks.
