A&E ran a bunch of “A Duck Dynasty” shows on Sunday. I finally sat down and watched a couple of them.
I want the 15 minutes back I spent watching the first 15 minutes. I listened to the rest while I did some work on the computer. It didn’t get better.
I have nothing against the show or the people on it, but watching a bunch of people just living their lives and doing stuff is a piss-poor way to try to entertain or educate myself. Maybe it’s because I live on my own 32 acres and can enjoy the same sorts of stuff they do without ever leaving my property, from turkeys to deer to squirrels. Maybe “city slickers” can let their inner outdorrsman live vicariously through their show. I dunno.
Lighten up man. It’s good clean fun. We don’t get much of that on TV these days.

So, bread and circuses are what you ^require^. Sad.
I had mixed feelings about the show.
I came to the conclusion that I love it.
Though it may not do much for the brain, it does a lot for the soul. The humour is a little silly sometimes, but these people are NOT, by any means, stupid hayseeds.
It is a feel good show - it gives us a glimpse into a family life that so many may be starved for. That’s why I think it has struck such a chord with the people.
You'll need 30 minutes back. The 15 spent watching DD and the 15 spent talking about it here at FR.;-)
One of the show’s tenets that radiates out to the audience, is the part about clinging to their guns and bibles. The illegal alien in the white hut described “us” as bitterly clinging to our guns and Bibles. Au contraire, we are happily, happily, happily clinging, enshrined, protected, surrounded, enthralled to/with our guns and bibles. We are Phil Robertson, we are Jim Thompson, we are Spartacus, etc... There’s a tad more to the show than meets the eye. We get it. This show isn’t dad’s late model oldsmobile, or redneck, knuckle dragging, hillbilly, stereotype, archetype, all hat, family show.
There’s 24 hours in a day so what one does to relax or unwind may include a stint in front of the telly. What one choses to watch is a personal decision. There are huge swaths of electrons beaming into America’s homes forming into shows that are full of garbage. This show isn’t one of them.
The Christmas show was the worst Duck Dynasty episode I’d ever seen. And I say that being a fan. I could see them slipping into the stupid stereotypes of modern society where the man is portrayed as a bumbling idiot and the female is portrayed as the much smarter and more together person.
And here’s the thing, the guys can act, or perhaps it is that their persona’s are so interesting that it makes the show interesting to me. The women, not so much.
Korie is stiff as a board and always harping at Willie about something.
Jase’s wife is always playing the pissed off wife who tells Jase off about something.
Jep’s wife Jessica LOVES the camera but she isn’t content to just be there like Jep is and be herself. She constantly overacts.
It wasn’t always like that, but the Christmas episode clearly shows the WORST of Duck Dynasty so I can see why you wouldn’t find it enjoyable.
Personally speaking, the earlier episodes were funnier and interesting. I see people I know in those characters and I love the way they show real people using guns quite frequently. I like that it’s in the liberal left’s face that way.
But as time has passed, the humor was becoming strained and crass. Didn’t care for the gambling episode or the wine episode.
Recent events were probably the best thing to happen to them. They were over merchandised and Willie allowed their face and likeness to over-saturate the market. They were becoming caricatures of themselves. But now they have a different issue to be famous for and middle America has embraced them.
I still like the show, I’m just picker about which ones I watch. And I totally support what Phil said.
But I totally understand your thoughts on the Christmas episode.
And maybe take me catch some frogs. ...not gigging, catch 'em bare-handed.
...then can we shoot some doves, ducks & pigs. ...not necessarily on the same day.
32 acres and all that fun! ... This Yuppie is jealous.
PS. Can your wife cook? ...a prayer & good supper are always a good way to end a hard day.
