RIP Larry. I did not know you but you have left a large void on the airwaves. You also appeared to be a lover of fun, God Bless you.

I used to listen to “Animal Stories” with Uncle Larre and Little Tommy. Hilarious. RIP Mr. Lujack—you will be missed.

What I heard was that Rush Limbaugh patterned his delivery after Lujack—used sarcasm, etc. How did Larry feel? He hated, hated, HATED Rush, to quote Roger Ebert. Some are saying online the likes of David Letterman and Bill Murray were influenced by him, too; have heard he used the name
Johnny Lujack when at WMEX, Boston.

First it was Don Wade. Now it’s Lujack. Chicago is losing its radio talent.

You can add Jerry G. Bishop to that list. He died this year, too.

For a small town kid, listening to WLS was a huge thing. It connected you with the world.

Aw, damn....

Like many I grew up listening to Uncle Lar, and followed him all the way to his reincarnated last gig with Little Tommy at "Real Oldies 1690" until it went away. Even after being away from radio for 20 years, he still had "it". One of the great jocks from the music radio era, who will live forever in our memories.

And now, for a shiny new dime, how does a chinchillla spell relief? To learn the answer, listen to "Animal Stories", the comic bit that Lujack was best known for, and which will still have you in stitches:

There are lots of airchecks but if you want to hear what real radio sounded like ca. 1977, here’s one with Larry Lujack in the air chair at the Rock of Chicago, WLS:
