guess that's why it's called the Fog of War... very interesting observations, would it be fair to say that AAA may have played some roll in the accident either forcing one to climb or the other to dive to quickly avert or even hit the Provider?
did you ever run into any 57mm AAA in that area
Didn’t hear of triple A that night. It was something we experienced almost every flight other than Monsoon season, and even then the bad guys would shoot up through the clouds based on sound, and sometimes they could get your attention.
I suspect strike pilots weren’t watching AAA because it might screw up their night vision. We had loadmasters that kept a real sharp eye on that stuff and would generally be the ones screaming break right or left. We obeyed willingly.
57 was sporadic when I was there but IIRC later they had a radar version that could be pretty exciting. Intell would brief us on where they were so we kind of avoided getting too close.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I have been “under the weather” the last day, or so. When I am back up to speed, I will look into your additional information, compared to what is out there, on the internet.
If you put the term “Morgan Donohue MIA” in your search engine, it will lead to a lot of stories, on this incident (but a lot of duplication). I gather that the Donohue family put a great deal of effort to find him, but I have also seen commentary suggesting that some of the information provided is not necessarily reliable.
