I realize that its a tragedy and most parents are caught in a nightmare. Lanza’s mother KNEW he was seriously disturbed, admitted it, yet taught him to shoot! That’s making things worse. She tried to ‘normalize’ him and it was them against the world. The fact is there are people who will NEVER be normal, and who are dangerous to themselves and others. For them we MUST have isolation and treatment. First our society has to admit such people are dangerous-then have the guts to deal with it. Until then, THEY are free, and our children and public areas must be guarded. It’s backwards.
I agree that if you have a mentally ill person in the house, allowing them free access to firearms is folly.
Then it stands to reason that if we have more laws, it would be harder for people like Adam to break them all. /S
He could have murdered a police officer like he did his mother and taken their gun. He could have gotten guns on the black market.
Criminals can get guns because they are not concerned with obeying the law by definition.
I realize that. I am just predicting the freedom-hating argument they will come up with.
I see your point. I did not think that you were advocating that position. I just thought I would make the counter-point for those folks that are less familiar with the issue.
Noted gun author Clayton Cramer wrote a recent book on that subject called “My Brother Ron”.
Kennedy family guilt played a factor in making getting a severely mentally ill relative committed next to impossible.
