When you deal with the Missouri War and the Illinois War, you'll find there is more than enough blame to go around, as well as more than enough exaggerations.
The Mormons were antislavery. The Mormons were feared to vote as a block. The excuse to attack the Mormons was the destruction of an opposition paper printing press. The hate of the Mormons had nothing to do with the destruction of a printing press and all to do with taking over the politics of the county which could change the slave status of the whole state.
Politics were played hard in those days. Those who believed in slavery would do anything they could to protect it including running a whole city with 20000 inhabitants out of the state.
If you think there was any other reason for what happened you need to do just a little research, it is all well understood and well documented.
It has been said that the president of the Mormon Church at the time, Joseph Smith and his older brother were murdered because of their practice of polygamy. That was an excuse to get opposing ministers and their congregations involved politically and nothing more. The whole thing was a political move by supporters of slavery. Joseph Smith died because his church was against slavery and preached it everywhere they went. Had they left that one issue alone, it would have likely meant that the headquarters of the LDS would be in Missouri and not Utah.
