CNN's Cuomo Defends 'Context' Of Bashir's Repulsive Palin Slander
Truth Revolt ^ | 11/21/2013 | Jeff Dunetz

Posted on 11/21/2013 6:11:48 PM PST by markomalley

On Thursday's New Day on CNN host Chris Cuomo seemed to defend Martin Bashir's reprehensible comments as a rhetorical point gone wrong and effusively praised his apology as "the best he has ever heard."

Mediaite columnist Joe Concha was invited onto the program to discuss the Bahir incident and MSNBC's lack of official reaction. When Concha asked why Bashir hadn’t been suspended for his on-air statement while Alec Baldwin was sent to the penalty box for something off-air, Cuomo launched into his defense.

Well, alright, but hold on. Let's get some context here. Because, there's no question it was wrong, right? And I have to say that because Martin Bashir says that. So that is the accepted premise, that what he said was wrong.

The accepted premise? Cuomo seems to be arguing that Bashir saying someone should p*ss and sh*t in Sarah Palin's mouth is only wrong because Bashir himself called it wrong.

In fact, Cuomo continued by defending Bashir's horrific words:

That goes to the intention that Bashir had when he said that. Having read the full transcript of what it was, it seemed to have been a fairly well developed reference to the history of slavery and how terrible it is and this is what was done to slaves. And if you want to use slavery you should know what slavery is and this is what should happen to you and it became the last part of what he said should happen to her which is a horrible thing that was done to slaves. Do you think Martin Bashir was trying to be viciously savagely hurtful to Sarah Palin? You don't think he was trying to make a bigger rhetorical point and that this was a mistake of how to do it?

Concha explained that he believes it was intended to be vicious, that Bashir himself had made analogies to slavery similar to the one Palin made, and the reason the MSNBC host made the vile comment was to manufacture a controversy and improve his shows failing ratings.

Neither Cuomo nor co-host Kate Bolduan seemed willing to agree that Bashir should face any discipline for his scripted, vetted, on-air remarks.

As the conversation began to wrap up, Cuomo began to wax poetic about Bashir's apology:

But I will tell you this, when I heard his apology I thought it was the best media apology I’ve ever heard. I thought it made CBS’s Benghazi apology seem like a ‘maybe.’ I thought it was so unqualified — he tapped into the instincts that drove him to that level of rhetoric; the harshness that we all talk about in the media; that he became a manifestation of that and why that’s wrong. I think he went a really far way.

I think Barack Obama should be laboring in the fields, picking cotton. Now, I am aware that some people may find that statement offensive. So, I apologize. But let me also say that if you knew the full context here, you would agree with me 100%.

Regardless of the context, I’m sorry that I cannot agree. If history teaches us anything at all, it is to always pick one’s own cotton.

There was a man named Howard Cosell. He did a lot for blacks in sports. He practically made Cassius Clay.
He was a friend to Negroes in sports. Howard went out of his way to praise them.

One day Howard watched this guy take off running, it was a great run, Howard screamed in his excitement “Look at that monkey run” he meant nothing by it. He apologized when it should not have been necessary.

But Howard Cosell was ruined just that fast. Destroyed.
He never said lets Sh*t in that guy’s mouth or P*ss on him.
Nothing as nasty and vile as that, Jut “Look at that Monkey run” and Howard was done in broadcasting.

Now this man wants the vilest of acts performed on a lady.
A great lady IMO. A woman that at one time ran for the Vice Presidency.

It seems that many Democrat NOW women agree with Bashir, they haven’t said anything. I would bet if someone said that about Michelle Obama or Medal of Freedom winner Gloria Steinem, they would be up in arms.

Hypocrisy-——Hypocrisy—=— And they accuse Republicans of a war against women. I suppose a war against a woman with opposing views than theirs is fine. NOW women are fine with anything as long as they are allowed to murder their unborn.

They are not protective of Mothers, Christian women, Muslim women, Black women who are Christians being murdered in Africa. They are Feminazi trash.

This is what your Mafia relatives do to their girls when they are displeased with them. Then they kill them. I heard it on "The Sopranos."

I read the transcript of Bashir's segment.

Talk about a non-sequitur.

Palin made an analogy to working for the government for free, with no compensation, i.e. slavery.

I might have chosen the word theft, but, whatever.

Then Bashir picks out some obscure scatological quote by a creepy slave-owner from several centuries ago.

Yes, that of COURSE follows logically.

Palin: the government seems to be screwing the American people over.

Bashir: Now I'll read a quote from Ted Bundy...

Cuomo’s wins for being the biggest fool... There's no way that pipsqueak Bashir wrote that apology - not one chance in hell.
