Rep. Nick Rahall (D- WV): I Don't Regret Voting for Obamacare
Weekly Standard ^ | NOV 19, 2013 | JOHN MCCORMACK

Posted on 11/20/2013 7:17:51 PM PST by Qbert

Democratic congressman Nick Rahall of West Virginia was one of the 39 Democrats to vote last Friday to allow insurance plans that were on the market in 2013 to be sold next year. But during a radio interview, Rahall made it clear that he didn't regret voting for Obamacare in the first place.

"I think there's more good than bad in that law," he said. Rahall added that he thought some of his constituents will find it was in their "best interest" to have their current plans canceled.

"I believe that West Virginians, once they have access to the website and once they have the information available to them, will be able to make the decisions that are in their best interests," Rahall said. "After all, those that are receiving the cancellation letters today, some 9,500 or more in West Virginia, they're not being told in these cancellation letters that its because they don't meet the requirements of the act. The requirements of which may be, if they're given the information, allowed access to it, may be in their best interest in the long term to be canceled."

Rahall, who has served in Congress since 1977, has usually won reelection by huge margins, but he slipped to 56 percent of the vote in 2010 and 54 percent in 2012.

Rahall is probably right about the West Virginians. Many do look for “free things” there; never mind if the ACA is not free.

Maybe he doesn’t regret it yet——but he will.

Thanks for the link to that article, it’s very informative.

It seems to me that a Rep in a state like WV should not be hiring staff members that are in bed with or sympathetic to enviros. Hopefully this is well known in his district, it’s difficult to walk the fence when so much is at stake.

The arrogance and sense of invulnerability are startling. What an oaf.

The now retired Bart Stupak, who led a small group of ‘rats who wanted to see some guarantees against abortion in Obamacare before they went stupid and voted for the bill, has also been around on TV saying he’s still happy he went along with it - apparently if you’re so dumb you actually believe Obama’s “executive order” will really protect religious objections to being forced to pay for abortions with your tax money, your too dumb to realize it’s time to admit how dumb you were.....

You have to remember that he represents a poor state and they aren’t all coal workers. I don’t agree with him on so many issues but the truth is, he is family, I can’t attack him and truthfully, he has always done his best to represent his constituents well. They keep reelecting him so I leave it in their hands.

I don’t know much about this guy’s district, but I’m sure many Dems can still safely support ObamaCare. Due to gerrymandering, some represent districts where a W-2 hasn’t been issued in decades; their constituents will be receiving everything for free. This is just an added benefit to their welfare, section 8 subsidy, food stamps, and Obama phone.

The opposition to this has to come not from the usual Republican suspects (who couldn’t even vote Obama out in 2012), but from young people with bleak job prospects who will be footing the bill for it. I think young people have lost a lot of enthusiasm for Obama, but that simply left them sitting home on election day instead of remaining engaged. I’m shocked at the number of people living in misery that don’t bother to vote; the media has convinced them it doesn’t make a difference. With O in office, that was better than having them show up to repudiate him.

I hope so. Given what the dims stand for, unicorn energy for example, I simply cannot believe West Virginians continue to vote for dims.
