MARTIN BASHIR: Last Friday, on this broadcast, I made some comments which were deeply offensive and directed at Governor Sarah Palin. I wanted to take this opportunity to say sorry to Mrs. Palin and to also offer an unreserved apology to her friends and family, her supporters, our viewers, and anyone who may have heard what I said.
My words were wholly unacceptable. They were neither accurate, nor fair. They were unworthy of anyone who would claim to have an interest in politics, and they have brought shame upon my friends and colleagues at this network, none of whom were responsible for the things that I said. And at a place where we try every day to elevate political discourse and to focus on issues that matter to all of us.
In the battle of ideas, America leads the world in whole-hearted discussions and disagreements and these arguments can be heard on a daily basis. But what I did on Friday had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with that great tradition and I am deeply sorry.

I'm similarly inclined, though admittedly somewhat equivocally.
I would be less equivocal in my acceptance, if he had explicitly taken the words AND THOUGHTS back and promise to never say that kind of stuff again.
That is, he apologized for what he said, and he said he shouldn't have said it, that's good. But even better, in my opinion, would be to say:
"...and I hereby retract not only those awful words but also the hateful thoughts that generated them. I take back not just the nasty words I said, but the evil attitudes that they conveyed. I have made a pledge to myself and my God that I will not do this again..."Then I would wholeheartedly accept his apology.
BTW, I've said some nasty things in my day, and the words above are taken from what I have said in trying to address the errors I myself have made. It didn't kill me, it wouldn't kill him either.
BTTT!
His ass should be fired. Can you imagine even a Conservative network that had an anchor saying someone should “defecate” on Zero keeping their job ?
There’s a difference between “I’d like to say sorry...” and “I’d like to say I’m sorry...” He said the first. EITHER WAY...HE’S ONLY SORRY THAT HE WAS CAUGHT.
Thank you!
Bashir should apologize for living.
And then rectify the situation.

Well stated, dearest dayglored, but like I previously posted, I think Bashir’s apology was prompted by the FCC, because I have heard that several complaints were filed. Some are even referenced at the Real Clear Politics site.
Sounds like we know where the real war on women exists.
I promise to write and send my e-mails tomorrow!
Thank you so much again for suffering through his vile TV program.
Well said.
That’s about the only way Bashir could have got me back.
He did.
Hi Onyx! I don't doubt you're right -- that's a powerful motivator. It would be so much nicer if it was prompted by an actual change of heart, and I suppose I'm ever the optimist.
As it happened, when I made my reply to Laz's post #30, I hadn't made it all the way to your post #84 yet, or I would have said so! :)
You are a Saint for suffering through his show.
Those Sponsors will be hear from me!
This cannot be allowed to stand.
Glad to do it. My fast-forward button got a workout!
God bless and keep you.
Now let’s let his sponsors hear from us.
KC-Lion: Next ping to Sarah’s List, please include the link to Bashir’s Sponsors with proper request.
Restoring Tagline
I shall!
Catherine's work will not be for naught!
He’s sorry NBC - the parent network of these lowlifes - was embarrassed enough that he might lose his job... Guess Sham-ton the antisemite hasn’t crossed their lines yet. What a filthy network.
Because the other jerks at NBC feel the same way he does, they're just careful enough not to say it on air. NBC was the group that doctored tapes to make Zimmerman look like a racist. They hate middle class Americans. They hate people like Sarah because she's a married woman with children... and a Christian.
