I preferred Ramsey Lewis’ version of “The In Crowd”.

I first heard the Ramsey Lewis version on a juke box in Darmstadt, Germany in September, 1965. But I still prefer the KRLA version by Dobie Gray from March, 1965.

I was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia at the time and went to Washington, D.C. one weekend. I was at one of Ramsey Lewis’ performances at the “Bohemian Gardens”, if I remember the name of the club correctly. That is where I heard “The In Crowd” and later bought the album after leaving the military.

It is fascinating to me how the human brain can remember suck trivial things. ;-)
