IIRC, he was a successful jazz pianist before he became popular as a singer. I'm so glad he started using the pipes.

IMO, he was better than either Sinatra or Crosby, and he certainly beats the hell out of anyone now performing.

As I remember it, he was the piano player for the quartet and someone else was the singer. One night the singer had laryngitis and could not sing. Nat King Cole sang in his place and his career took off after that one night of singing.
