WASHINGTON The Internal Revenue Service plans to delay the start of tax-filing season by a week or two because of the government shutdown, the agency said on Tuesday. But taxpayers will still have to turn in their 2013 returns by April 15 as usual.
Readying our systems to handle the tax season is an intricate, detailed process, and we must take the time to get it right, Daniel I. Werfel, the acting I.R.S. commissioner, said in a statement.
The adjustment to the start of the filing season provides us the necessary time to program, test and validate our systems so that we can provide a smooth filing and refund process for the nations taxpayers, he said. We want the public and tax professionals to know about the delay well in advance so they can prepare.

Maybe for a short while.
Same old tactic.. Blame Republicans because your refund of taxes you did not pay.. will be late. Think anyone will point out the inefficiency of government? Yes we expect your money to meet our demands on time, but we will make it hurt as long as possible. It’s not a refund if you pay nothing into the system, it is an out and out thievery of working class money.
I am sure the debacle that is Obamacare and its IRS implications won’t have anything to do with the delay.

They do it ever year and have done it every year forever, what is the problem? By now one would think they had it down pat.
sounds like refunds will be late but taxes must still be paid by April 15th
what a country
Looks to me like cover for problems with Obamacare, as informavoracious has pointed out. They have said there are no problems with their portion of the system. But how can that be? If the insurers are getting garbled data, so is everyone else, including the IRS. Just imagine all the fun that could result from, for example, assigning a few hundred thousand individual taxpayers with the wrong Obamacare tax status. Very very messy. So is it possible they lied to us? Maybe? Nah, couldn’t be. They’d never do that. Would they?
New talking points to the leftist media-blame all future damage to the economy on Republicans and the shutdown. The public will believe anything the well-groomed man on the evening news tells them.
I believe I will be hanging out with Wesley Snipes this time next year. Going Galt.
