I smell rats the size of ranch houses, here.
“Sackett faces charges for attempting to entice an underage girl across state lines to engage in a commercial sex act.”
This covers the gamut of the “ideal federal charge”, because likely all evidence against him was collected through warrantless monitoring of his computer. It crosses state lines so it is clearly federal jurisdiction. And the collection methods, even *who* collected that data is likely secret, and will not be divulged to the defense.
In other words, “He committed a federal crime that cannot be detailed in court or cross examined. His accusers are secret. Therefore he is guilty, and cannot prove he is not guilty.”
If the feds were really being crappy about it, if his computer used WiFi, they could have parked near his house, accessed his system, done the evidence transfer themselves, with him none the wiser.
why drive over there just access his account and load it up with all kinds of BS..
May be time to throw this thing away
Bingo. This was “attempting” to entice some “underage” girl. IOW, it was all on the computer/phone and could have been planted.
Stinks. If he’s innocent, he’s better hire an expert to untangle the mess.
If it was real they would have had the girl say she’d meet him but instead have the police meet him there with handcuffs.
In this day and age that is the level of evidence that should be necessary to prove this kind of claim. And maybe law enforcement people can say better, but I think that’s the usual protocol for catching true predators who target girls online. If it isn’t, it should be.
