As Russia prepares to mark 70 years since the Sobibor revolt, one Jewish officer finally finds his rightful place as the hero of the story. ------ Russia was set to mark Monday the 70th anniversary of a revolt at the Sobibor death camp led by a Red Army officer, the biggest and most successful prisoner escape under the Nazi regime.
Ahead of the anniversary, President Vladimir Putin ordered the defense ministry to come up with a plan to "immortalise the memory of heroes who raised a revolt" at the extermination camp in occupied Poland on October 14, 1943.
The order came after the Kremlin rights council urged Putin to posthumously decorate the leader of the revolt, Alexander Pechersky, with a Hero of Russia award, the country's highest honor, after decades of oblivion.
In a country where the liberating role of the Soviet army in World War II has long been a key plank of state doctrine, few knew about Pechersky, a Russian officer of Jewish origin, who roused his fellow prisoners to rebellion.

How can the children and grandchildren of Jews, who suffered under socialism in both Germany and Russia, support the Democratic Party?
How was it that collectivist Jews from Russia created what was to become Israel? Why didn’t the religious do it?
Good questions.
Pechersky’s life after the War was a proxy for the oppression and wasted talent of millions. What a contribution he could have made to the world if only he had possessed freedom. At least he saved the lives of fifty-three, and his own. But to what end ... a life of anti-semitic socialist hell? Or would he have sensed only the anti-semitism and remained almost willfully blind to the ravages of socialism?

Today, generations later, liberalism has now been amended to oddly reject Judaism. It seems that advocating for the rights of those who would see Jews and Israel disappear by opposing Jews as well has become the mantra of liberal Jews.
In the book “Belzec, Sobibor, Treblinka: The Operation Reinhard Death Camps”, buy Yitahak Arad, Indiana University Press, 1987, there is a whole chapter devoted to Perchersky and how he helped arrange the revolt and escapes from Sobibor.
From what I can gather, my grandmother’s family died in Lemberg/Lvov/Lviv, Belzec and perhaps Auschwitz so Perchersky is a hero of mine.
One reason is that they consider the both the Nazi party and the Republican party to be "far right."
There’s a great made for TV film on the Sobibor revolt, made appros. 25 years ago, Escape drom Sobibor, starring Alan Arkin and Rutgar Hauer as Pechersky. Was free for streaming on Amazon Prime service to android devices and laptops last time I checked - check on You Tube for clips.
Correct spelling of the actor’s name is Rutger Hauer. Article has a link to an Israeli online site which says Hauer won a Golden Globe for his performance.
I live part time in S Florida..gated over 55 joint. Although its changing now, its made up of NYC libs. Im always amazed that Jews would actually support 0bama and the RATS. The Israelis that own homes here just shake their heads in disbelief.
To what end? Well, escaping the gas chamber would seem at least somewhat attractive to a man in his position, don’t you think?
