Tropical Storm Karen dumped varying amount of rain all over the South Central, tri-county PA area, ranging from 5.6" to 10.2", but the "official" tally is 9.11"; all of it causing widespread flooding and misery.
Multi-million-gallon retention ponds and containment areas overflowed quickly, wiping-out travel on roads and streets for much of Friday.
I recorded 14.7" at my Condo's Weather Station, in East York, as of Saturday morning, at 6:45am.
If you have pics of your area
Compared to 2011's TS Lee, which dumped 13" over an even wider area, it's hard to tell much difference from the pictures coming in from news sources and viewers, so far. But Lee's devastation was certainly far, far worse.
The "York Daily Record" has a 30-slide show, as of Saturday morning.
WGAL-8 TV has a 52-slide show, as of Saturday morning.
The "Patriot News" has a 36-slide show, as of the same time period.
"Thursday's rainfall in the Harrisburg shattered a 119-year-old record for the day, according to the National Weather Service in State College. The Harrisburg area officially received 4.02 inches of rain at the Harrisburg International Airport (HIA), according to the weather service. The previous record for any October 10 had been 1.50 inches of rain, set in 1894."
Harrisburg set a new 2-day's record of rainfall (12-slide show). "Fridays rainfall in Harrisburg was measured at 4.41 inches as of 5 p.m. That crushed the previous high for Oct. 11, which was 1.47 inches."
"The prior record was set 108 years ago in 1905, according to Kevin Fitzgerald, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service."
"Thursdays rainfall measured at 4.02 inches also easily surpassed the all-time record for Oct. 10. The previous high was 1.5 inches and was also set more than a century ago in 1894."
The one pic which struck me was a shot of the southbound lane of I-83 near Exit 8, Glen Rock, of the roadway being under 8-10" of water:

The PA progressives are all thinking “Damn, if only Pennsylvania had a rain tax like Maryland has!”.
I guess we're lucky it wasn't snow!
Does anyone have a PA list or know people in PA/MD/NJ/DE/VA and other states, who’d be affected by this? Pls Ping them, if you would so they can contribute some pics of their affected areas. Thanks.
You got the combo of a cold front and the remnants of Karen - not a TS.
This was caused by AGW so call Al Gore!
You’re right; thanks for the clarification. They were calling it everything from a TS to a Nor’Easter and whatever else they could think of, at the local weather channels.
PA Ping!
If you see posts of interest to Pennsylvanians, please ping me.
Thanks!
Thanks carriage_hill for the heads up
Fortunately, the storm water system in the new development behind our house in Lancaster County, worked as advertised.
“Sorry, our voicemail box is full. Please try back in 10-20 years. Thank you for supporting AGW.”
LOL.
