the next ice age is due to start in 2016 with the absence of sunspots. Sunspots are actually areas where the temperature is lower than normal. So... absence of sunspots means that the overall surface of the Sun is brighter(and hotter).
That being said, it's not the sunspots that cause the changes in Earth's 'climate'.

I wonder how many folks have any idea of what that graph means. If we have a cool or cold period like the Maunder Minimum, we will lose plenty of population. If it goes further into a nice age, which we are overdue for, the earth will have no human population problem to speak of.
