Unions say they'll fight for back pay for furloughed members (No Deal!!!)

Nearly a half million federal furloughed employees will turn to their unions to help claw back money they lost as part of the federal government’s scale back of services that went into effect Tuesday.

Leading up to the suspension, union leaders said they would lean on lawmakers to ensure that their employees get paid for their forced time off.

Congress could vote to retroactively pay workers, and did so for employees affected by the last shutdown in late 1995 and 1996.

"The National Treasury Employees Union will be leading the fight to make that happen," president Colleen Kelley told Reuters, adding that 90 percent of the workforce it represented at the Internal Revenue Service was facing furlough.

Congress held eleventh hour sessions Monday night leading up to the deadline but were unable to come to an agreement on funding the government and the future of ObamaCare. As a result, thousands of federal employees were put on notice – and told to stay home for the immediate future.;

Typical union BS. Pay people for doing nothing. What’s wrong with America? Greedy unions are what’s wrong with America.

It’s no different than a company laying off people, they don’t pay them back pay if they get to return.

If they are going to get back pay, which they will, they need to be working. Why should they get a paid vacation?

Non-essential personnel demanding pay for doing nothing.

I believe our congresscritters passed legislation for back pay during the last shut down. All federal bow wows got their paychecks, albeit late.

It appears the pressure is working on the whole Democrat establishment. The MSM went into a frenzy yesterday, trying to make it as bad as possible and now the unions are up in arms. The Rats in Congress have been using personal insults as though we never heard that one before. There is NOTHING any arm of the Rat Party can do to bring down the GOP anymore than they already have so the GOP has NOTHING to lose at this point.

If they did it this time then it would render the shutdown mute. Make the union thugs worry about their membership then maybe they can pressure the Rats.

I notice the “unions” are strangely silent since meeting with hussein; I wonder what they were promised that we will NEVER get but will have to pay for?

The RAT politicians will move heaven and earth to get them back pay. After all, they don’t want to stiff their bosses.

As soon as they are suspended (laid off ) they apply for unemployment, and wait a week and their unemployment checks will start... so it is not like they wont get any money, most will see a large check from unemployment, with no deductibles except for voluntarily taking fed taxes out

They should all be converted to 29 hour-a-week employees, like everyone else..

In every shutdown, congress has paid the furloughed workers. This will be no exception, unless the democrats in the senate decide to try to score more political points on the backs of the American people.

Intermittent federal employees aren’t given union protection.

Yes. I am sorry I was mean. I regretted it, then I saw this article where I found that I was wrong to boot! So, I'm sorry, autumnrain. What I said was uncalled for.

House needs to start adding two clauses to its CR proposals:

  1. No funds from this shall be spent on 'back pay' for hours federal employees were not working during this shutdown.
  2. This isn't justiciable.
Then defend them as necessary to give government workers and unions some skin in the negotiations between the government and government employees' party, and the people's party. After reading those clauses, for once the Democrats wails will be honest.

Then leak that the first clause may grow in subsequent iterations if Harry and Barry remain… mulish. And I apologize to mules.
