Maybe what we need are "town rights".
Because too many Republicans don't understand the connection. Many of them are as in the dark about economics as Democrats.
I’m not sure why we can’t have libertarian populism at the national level and strong conservatism at the local government level.”
That is actually an extremely brilliant insight
Populism? I can't align myself with any of that.
Jesus Christ: You cant impeach Him and He aint going to resign.
Sorry noobie, but that is what you think
Crafting a message to appeal to the majority almost insures that you cannot turn the ship. To turn the ship, you have to persuade the majority to think differently. That requires the willingness to actually persuade, to explain, and to talk about principles rather than simply tip your hat at them by talking in symbols and clichés.
Not between fire and ice—between hell and high water. Libertarianism is the hell part of it.
Libertarians don’t mind kicking in doors to be heard, messing with the GOP rules book in caucus states, generally raising hell in public and going after the college vote and young adults eager for a cause. AND, they are CONFIDENT.
Conservatives are much too, ..... well, ... conservative, to do that sort of thing and mostly quite out of energy to do infantry ground running again. Where are the numbers of our younger conservatives?
Good point. Conservatives by and large want to be left alone to pursue their private affairs (which is the whole purpose of political freedom) and are typically too busy living their lives to get involved with politics.
Libertarians want to be FREE and are only too happy to make a stink if that's what it takes.
Libertarians need conservatives to keep them from going off the rails. Conservatives need libertarians to do the door kicking and stink making.
We also fight at the federal level for whether the left or right wins on social issues.
The feds make law for themselves and the nation on immigration, abortion and gay marriage for the military and in it’s hospital systems and employment, in immigration law, foreign policy etc.
Tell me why you prefer what the Republican Party has become to libertarianism. In my view, we’ve passed the Mendoza line; the obvious flaws in the Libertarian party are less significant than the obvious flaws in the Republican Party.
“Libertarians need conservatives to keep them from going off the rails. Conservatives need libertarians to do the door kicking and stink making.”
Good point.
The Ronald Reagan Approach. Works every time.
I agree with the vital trade off, absolutely.
But.... I must raise the point that conservatives have been broadcasting that soundbite (excuse) that they, “are too busy”, for now ions. THAT is exactly how we lost the country, though it is perhaps true. We have paid the price if it is.
The democrats have picked up on that mantra, and left us scratching our head how they got it all done and we did not.
Most of our so called "Leaders" are too lazy to to lead. The majority of the people are too lazy to change their minds. After all, there is no remote.
Having a hard time getting past the "Mytheos."
Isn't that the sort of thing you change when you leave home?
Then there's the "lives in Washington DC," and the whole "recent grad of Wesleyan University" thing.
It's too easy to come up with "stands" and "positions" when you've barely begun to live.
It's true - they don't put their pants on one leg at a time.../s
There was a time we thought are 'betters' were better - with the help of TV and the internet we know it's not true. The term 'feet of clay' applies...
I like it.
