Anyone remember his handle...?

Would that have been quidam? (sp?)

Hilarity ensued, Moderator lost control and ended the call.

That happened another funny time; the political potential of the web was just beginning to be realized, and some political advisor thought it would be good to sex-up one of Hillary's events by having a VOIP call-in:

A freep posted the number, and Hillary Call-in thread sucked in posts with the gravity of a black-hole: EVERY freeper suddenly had to try and speak to her in this call in.

And they did, very insultingly, to the delight of all --some even put the receiver next to the TOILET AND FLUSHED IT, with the sound going out over the internet.P> So obviously they terminated the event..! hHAHAHAH, good times!

I joined up roughly 15 years ago today give or take a week — remember donating for the Washington Post ad.

March 24 2000 under my current handle of cpdiii. I go back a couple of more years but changed my handle due to confusion with another Freepers name. Prior to that I was a lurker at the the old Whitewater page on Prodigy. That is where it all started.

Whitewater and Free Republic, so I guess I can say I have been here from the beginning. Free Republic let me know that there are many other like minded people out there.

THANK YOU JIM ROBINSON!!!

QUIDAM..!!!

Yes, sharp memory!

Yes, it was Quidam who had all the predictions and acolytes.

Have not seen nor heard from him since, for clear reasons.

I sometimes wonder if Rush has a screen-name, but I think not.

I think most famous people who come here do so by lurking, or do not self-identify.

I have noticed that some of the political analysis here will show up in the media, mostly Fox News but also others, a day or two later. They do troll the site looking for info, ideas, and analysis.

Whoops! Just had an idea and looked up my old s/n to see if it would show and it did! Turns out I am NOT a 15-year-gal. Only 14, since 1999.

Oh well...now I feel like such a Noob.

Best,

Started following FR as a lurker in March of ‘98. Became involved with a Chat Room thingy that Yellow Rose of Texas was doing on MS Chat during the next winter and finally “signed up” in the late spring of ‘99 after she teased me about being a terminal lurker. I had a firewall at work and didn’t want to do a work-around for a non-work item, so I just browsed in free time and lunch.

The Clinton Whitewater era, the impeachment, the Y2K, 9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq, and those times were memorable.

Its been an interesting journey. Many fine friends and some sad partings.

Congrats, nice thread, lots of old names but got to see a bunch just now! I kinda miss Bubba Clintax, he was a pain in the ass, but compared to what we gotta deal with now he was comic relief. Have a good air-conditioned evening, still nasty hot out here. :)

I was late to the party. Official date was Nov 22, 1999 but I had been lurking for some time before. Started before I had a real computer, used WebTV until I could get online with a PC. That was before I graduated to a Mac.
