A lovely dissertation for sure, however, you seem to have left out the very important piece of the Syria puzzle;
the oil. That is the bottom line.
Believe it is about oil but also more than oil. Think it is about whether the Sunnis get a base to launch war at the Shia in Syria and whether they can further spread the conflict. Believe it is ultimately about who ultimately has to fight in a war there, U.S. soldiers or Israeli soldiers. The question I believe is whether the U.S. is going to be relegated to both Israel’s and Saudi Arabia’s soldiers as the “policemen” of the world. Will other countries be able to use the United States to carry out their wars for them?, that I believe is one of the questions here.
Also I think it is about who will die in wars in the Middle East fighting for Israeli interests and the Israeli preference that it be Christians rather than Jews that die in future wars serving Israel’s interests.

Has Putin declared Christians as terrorists?

For background, read U.S. Military Fights Christians, NOT Jihadists and also read West Point Study Warns of Christian Terrorists as well as Pres. Obama Shifts Defense Funds to Homosexuals

Hydrocarbons. Putin wishes to dominate through oil and natural gas.
I don’t know what’s happening with the Exempt America rally today in DC.
I tried but couldn’t find a thread or anything about it currently, just posts some days ago that it was going to happen.
???
Should be going on now, right?
Not all of the world is driven by that -- especially the ones involved in this conflict (bar China)
The Iranis, Russians, Saudis, Iraqis all have pot loads of oil -- Syria's capacity is nothing to them
BUT, what they want is power, control
Syria is centrally located and a cross-roads
Iran/Iraq and Saudi arabia/Qatar are clearly playing the militant Shia v/s Sunni Salafist game
there is less idea of nation-states there than in the West, but more in terms of "group" -- Shia hegemony from Baloch to Beirut
Russia is interested in projecting itself as a power and yes, controlling the oil flows is good, but do not forget that Russia for 500 years has been obssessed with winning back Constantinople. Right from the time it fell to the Turks, the Moscowite Grand Dukes called themselves Tsars and Moscow as the successor state to the Romans
That permeated every single one of their decisions, right down to WWI -- in that, the Russians mobilised early, aiming to knock out Germany and then concentrate on getting Constantinople. The Germans had made the mistake of allying themselves with the Turks instead of renewing their age-old alliance with the Russians, thinking they would help the decript Austro-Hungarian empire
Even communists who HATED Christianity like Tukachevsky still had this thought "Capture Constantinople, become a Caesar/Augustus" ingrained in their heads
And....you don’t see how having control of the oil/gas pipelines is giving Russia that power they hunger for?
Really?
Maybe I need to go back and re-read things, I clearly see the drive for control, which includes Europe, and that does include the movement of gas/oil.
Thanks for your insight.
Oil is a temporary high, but the Russians are paying for long stakes.
