I believe he was KIA three times and lost an arm and a leg at some point. He chewed the limbs off a corpse (or was it corps) and sewed them on himself with the threads from the shreded remains of the shirt worn by the corpse now missing it’s extremities.

And he did it with no pain killers. But this was because he was still dead from his second KIA.
