Democrats say ‘rock star’ gov chances good

Gov. Deval Patrick is a Democratic “rock star” who — scandals be damned — could launch a 2016 White House run if he chooses, say Democrats undeterred by this week’s double whammy of dirt to hit Patrick’s administration and political future.

“This will pass like a storm cloud in the summertime,” Democratic strategist Steve McMahon said of revelations the state’s escalating drug lab scandal has tainted the cases of as many as 40,000-plus defendants and that the state ranks in the top three nationwide in welfare handouts.

“If he decided to run, and I take him on his word he’s not, he’d be a very formidable candidate,” McMahon added, calling Patrick a “very successful” governor. “There’s a lane for someone who is not a Washington insider which he could fill. ... Deval Patrick is a political rock star, and outside of Boston, I don’t think anyone is even aware of any of these stories.”

The Herald reported yesterday some political watchers doubted Patrick’s chances at a White House run in the wake of a steady run of state scandals.

Patrick has publicly booted the possibility of a 2016 presidential campaign, but speculation still lives after state Democratic Party chairman John Walsh announced he’s leaving his post to head Patrick’s Obama-like Together PAC next month.

Walsh, who has admitted encouraging Patrick to run before, said the scuttlebutt now is “counterproductive,” and defended Patrick’s 61⁄2-year tenure.

“He has had success, and in areas that have needed to be addressed, he’s taken them on in a forthright manner,” Walsh said. “I have to concede that I may not be the strongest historian, but I’m fairly certain no one has been elected president over their own objections. I think he’s an extremely talented guy. I wouldn’t be surprised that he’d be good at anything he puts his mind to.”

His former inner circle concurred.

“I worked for Gov. Patrick for six years — this is the only job in politics he has ever wanted,” Alex Goldstein, the PAC’s former executive director, said in an email. “He loves being governor.

”Matt Bennett, a national Democratic consultant who worked on former Gov. Michael Dukakis’ 1988 presidential campaign, said state issues have little impact in national elections.“

Dukakis was selling the ‘Massachusetts Miracle’ and the cleanup of the bay, and no one cared in the general election,” Bennett said. “And they didn’t care in the other direction about the other state scandals that were popping up with Bill Clinton in Arkansas.”

Deval Patrick is one of the beige bolsheviks that David Axelrod specializes in foisting on the ignorant public.

My wife thinks a Hilary/Deval Patrick ticket is a distinct possibility for 2016. ...Shudder...

Think about it. Deval is Obama’s Mini-me and would definitely keep O’s counsel.

He’ll keep Jarrett around or will try. Hillary will lock her up in federal prison.

I can’t see the ticket. Too much conflict.

The current ‘rock star” President is not doing to good, why is there a need for another one.

I am hereby predicting the emergence of a stealth Obama Legacy candidate for the Presidency who will have the full backing of the Obama Machine.

It won’t be Hillary Clinton. It could be Deval Patrick.

This candidate doesn’t need any qualification other than nice manners and a pleasant personality in addition to his/her dedication to continue with the plan to completely destroy the America we love and replace it with a gobbled up Marxist-Islamic Utopia. Support for Shariah Law would also be a plus as long a it a closely held secret. Only the MSM could know since it’s members are quite trustworthy.

Oh yes, the candidate will have to be committed to continue to contain the 20 or 30 odd scandals and clear violation of law by Obama and members of his administration.

Keep a watch out. The move should be easy to spot.

I've thought for some time that the rat party will now find black at the top of the ticket irresistible since any and all criticism can be viciously suppressed as racist. And there will be only pro forma, ineffective opposition from the pubbie leadership.

Usually you start with the “lite” version and them move to the hardcore. Deval would be considered the “gateway” to Obama.

He is a crappy governor.
