What fraction of the Bullitt County 12-13 year old population was enrolled in eighth grade in 1912?

How many of them took the test?

What was the pass rate?

I have no doubt that the public schools are a mess, and also that they are worse than they have ever been. But way, way, WAY too many kids are enrolled past 8th grade, and the necessity of pretending to educate the ineducable and the unwilling distorts everything.

If you think that greater than 25% of 18 year olds are capable of twelfth grade work - EVER - and however delivered - I can only ask, what color is your unicorn?

>>I don’t have any problem making general, factual statements about race. I’m not saying you’re guilty of this, but too many people seem to forget that even if blacks are generally less intelligent than whites (and whites less intelligent than Asians), there are still very intelligent blacks and stupid Asians.

I think conservatives generally treat people as individuals, while liberals tend to treat us as groups. I strongly oppose making any presuppositions about anyone based on race. It doesn’t matter, for example, if young black males are twice as likely to commit a violent crime (I don’t know the actual violent crime rate for them, but it’s higher than for whites). I wouldn’t treat a young black male poorly based on that unless he gave me indications he was violent.

That’s why I’d oppose profiling based solely on race. On the other hand, it’s nearly impossible to look solely at race anyway. Other factors, like dress and appearance, speech, and behavior do justify profiling. The left seems to want us to turn a blind eye to those other factors in their effort to stamp out profiling. They also like to silence anyone who dares bring up generalized facts about race that might reflect negatively, like blacks generally being less ready for college.<<

We need to make arrangements for a face to face meeting. I was not aware that I have a twin. Your thoughts match mine to a tee!

the necessity of pretending to educate the ineducable and the unwilling distorts everything.

That is the heart of the problem right there.

But we aren't supposed to acknowledge it exists.

Sio it goes hand in hand with the P.C. requirement to pretend all students have equal potential and that low performance is somehow the fault of the system and (supposed) tight fisted taxpayers.

The liberal mantra is always - "It's broken."

The education system is broken, the immigration system is broken, the justice system is broken, the prison system is broken, the gun control laws are broken.

To the P.C. mind, reponsibility never seems to lie with people who don't perform - just with organizations and systems.

RFEngineer: “The problem comes with taking a factual, objective assessment from a statistical group, and then applying it rigidly to an individual.”

Yes. I agree. What I don’t like is how the left is trying to stamp out factual, objective assessments that might depict certain groups in a negative fashion. Facts are facts, and truth is important.

The *obvious* remedy is to give black students preference in college admissions! Duh! /s

Thanks theBuckwheat.
