exactly. I have very liberal brother and sister in law that often brag that a friend of their child is black (everytime they mention this girl for years on end. like we didn't remember it the first time--haha.)

Of course I never mention the race of my friendships and they are shocked when I tell them so and so (whom they know to be black) used to be tight with me and so and so and I were buds throughout college or whatever and then it becomes clear in other descriptions of their name they are black and my in laws look dumb founded. You can see them thinking 'wow she's a conservative and a republican and has more black friends then us. as we've actually never really had black friends until out daughter brought this girl home. I'm so confused."
