US Military Caught Manipulating Social Media, Running Mass Propaganda Accounts
StoryLeak ^ | August 9, 2013 | Anthony Gucciardi

has been common knowledge to anyone paying attention within the alternative news community for years, but once again the media is now admitting that the US military and intelligence agencies are indeed running massive propaganda campaigns that cover a vast array of online networks.

How many times now has such ‘conspiracy nonsense’ now been reported years later by the mega media as undeniable fact? In the case of the US intelligence propaganda machine that even the New York Times has covered in an article entitled ‘The Real War on Reality‘, we are seeing just that. The New York Times report goes on to detail information uncovered from hacked data regarding the military operation to stage ‘grassroots’ responses and organizations in order to deceive via psyop.  Professor of philosophy Peter Ludlow writes for the Times:

“The hack also revealed evidence that Team Themis was developing a “persona management” system — a program, developed at the specific request of the United States Air Force, that allowed one user to control multiple online identities (“sock puppets”) for commenting in social media spaces, thus giving the appearance of grass roots support.  The contract was eventually awarded to another private intelligence firm.”

This cyber warfare is clearly not just in the capacity of ‘improving international reputation’ as military commanders are claiming on record (just like there is ‘no such thing’ as domestic spying and it’s only for terrorists). Instead, we’re talking about running a major network of computers that are constantly running code specifically written to post to social media and news comment pages. Something that was revealed all the way back in 2011 by RawStory and brushed off in the name of national security by the military.

From article

… Hackers regularly target various web pages. Evaluations of IP log files show that not only Monsanto visits the pages regularly, but also various organizations of the U.S. government,

Since only Jim and John have access to the server logs, you can address that question to him. Although, I have no doubt in my mind that this site is a high priority target.

I wondered about phony posters after the Snowden revelations. There was one or two that seemed “off”. The ones around the elections could be the opposition (dem’s)....or I guess they could be what this article suggests if the military sees an advantage of Obama staying in office.

Related, on vaccines discussions

Monitoring system to globally track false social media claims on dangers of vaccines

"Real-time monitoring and analysis of vaccine concerns could help governments and public health officials locally, nationally, and globally understand where they should focus their attention and resources when a concern arises, and where specific vaccines might need more tailored engagement strategies," Dr Larson said.

… scientists would also be able to immediately enter public debates about vaccination, while in the past they often only became aware of issues when it was too late to offer their expertise.

Some of the boot lickers on some of the crime threads are amazingly resistant to evidence, reasoned argument, or details of laws. Dunno if that means they’re sock puppets on somebody else’s behalf or dangerous brownshirts on their own time.

Just a cadre of liberal(R) supporters trying to browbeat people into voting for the liberal GOP-E candidates, like Romney.

To the extent these operations are aimed at FOREIGN populations, they have some legitimate utility (not unlike VOA broadcasts into the USSR).

Of course we’ve learned that in THIS administration, such is rarely the case.

The military does what the commander in chief tells them to do.

The top positions, such as the joint chiefs of staff, etc., are appointments by the president.

Do a little research on how generals get promoted to the highest positions in the military.

I think a majority of those were regular FReepers, nothing more. In the Snowden case, however, there was at least one, maybe two, that made me wonder if they were plants.....OR they could be merely overly eager to convince everyone of their opinion.

Just wondered if anyone else had noticed something similar.
