REAGAN takes viewers on a journey through the life of one of the most consequential men in American history, Ronald Wilson Reagan. When asked in a recent poll to rate American Presidents, 18% of Americans chose Ronald Wilson Reagan as the best President the nation has ever had, 16% chose John F. Kennedy and 14% selected Abraham Lincoln. Another poll asked Americans to rate their favorite American of all time and 24% chose Ronald Reagan. Although viewed favorably today by large majorities, during his time in office he was a divisive figure, both widely admired and loathed, mocked by one Washington insider as an amiable dunce.
Today, Ronald Reagan transcends politics and has reached iconic status. He is no longer Ronald Reagan, actor-turned-politician, but an American icon, revered by many. REAGAN: The Movie, based on two biographies of Reagan by historian Paul Kengor, The Crusader and God & Ronald Reagan, will take viewers on the journey of a lifetime as they follow the All-American story of the boy from Dixon, Illinois who grew up to be President and changed a nation and the world.

I will look forward to this movie, but I already know that it will make me homesick.
I miss the time I grew up in the 50’s and I miss the Reagan years. America was a better place back then and I don’t see us ever again returning to greatness. Hopefully I am wrong.

I remember the story of Ronnie meeting Gorbachev at a mid-winter summit in Austria as told by Gorbie’s driver. As the driver pulled up to Ronnie’s location, Gorbie pulled on his long coat, hat, scarf, and gloves before he got out of the car in the sub-zero winter air. Despite being 25 years younger than Ronnie, Gorbie looked very uncomfortable and apprehensive. Just then the driver noticed Ronnie bounding down the outside stairs with only his suit on and a huge smile on his face. The driver said that was the moment he knew that his side had lost.

Growing up with Ronald Reagan as president was both a blessing and a curse for me.
It was a blessing because of what a great man he was, and how much he really cared about and believed in this republic, and what it stood for.
It was a curse because I don’t think we will have another president in my lifetime that will even come close to filling his shoes.
I’m afraid it’s gonna be all Obama types from here on out.

When Reagan was elected in 1980 my husband and I couldn’t stop smiling for a solid week. I’m smiling now just remembering it.
When I need clarity, I listen to his old speeches or read his writings. He is still part of my world.
