Primary school dinner lady sacked for 'negligence, carelessness or idleness' after she accidentally served gammon to a Muslim pupil
A primary school dinner lady has been sacked for accidentally serving pork to a Muslim pupil.
Alison Waldock, 51, 'forgot' the seven-year-old dietary needs when she asked if the schoolgirl wanted gammon and the youngster said yes.
The school's headteacher spotted the mistake as the youngster was about to tuck into the meat and swept the plate away from her.
The girl's parents were then told how close their daughter had come to eating the meat, which is banned in their religion.
They complained to the school's catering firm and Ms Waldock, a dinner lady for 11 years, was suspended pending an investigation.

Obvious solution is for the parents is to honor kill the girl.
I wish there was some way we could add bacon to the atmosphere - it would keep out the riff-raff planet-wide.
You want some bacon with that?
Amazing isn’t it? That so many of us immediately thinking of the obscenity that is ‘honor killing’.
Now there is a culture in dire need of TV shows like “BBQ Pitmasters”
*burp*
Sorry 'bout that. :-)
Adventures in substituting....I did a few days in a pre-school class for recent immigrants. With less than 10 students with varying food restrictions....religious, ethnic, health and being too young for them to distinguish what they can and cannot eat, it's a nightmare, reading ingredients, figuring out what their restrictions are, watching what they take from foods they can choose from and not letting them give food to each other. There's no way the cafeteria workers can keep it straight.
I have a crazy suggestion...why not eliminate preschool and make kindergarten half day? Then the parents can feed their kids.
Allah forgives, they can eat it if necessary:
One example of verses from the Quran on pig consumption:
He has made unlawful for you that which dies of itself and blood and the flesh of swine and that on which the name of any other than Allah has been invoked. But he who is driven by necessity, being neither disobedient nor exceeding the limit, then surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.
And think about how somewhere between the age of 7 and 14, she’ll be taken back to the home country for a short vacation where she’ll undergo female genital mutilation without anesthesia. That is until the ritual is made lawful (and mandatory) in the U.K.
Oh, fer Pete’s sake, that’s what they call ham in England. It actually originally comes from a word meaning leg, and the later word ham that we use in the US is descended from gammon - jamon [Spanish], jambon [French], etc. Pardon the lack of accents, but they don’t show up here.
That said, I would suspect this little girl probably eats ham at home and probably comes from a somewhat lax family. It’s bizarre that British teachers have now become the enforcers of Islamic law.
Think I’ll go make some of the new Oscar Meyer Bacon hot dogs for my lunch!
“where the heck did the word gammon come from?”
I support the use of this traditional term. I guess you could say I back gammon.
But I thought we weren’t supposed to profile or stereotype based on appearances?
Adding those to my grocery list right now! Mmmm BACON!
Tons and tons of crop dusters spraying liquified bacon all over the place.
Obviously there needs to be a protest, with signs that say “Behead those who serve ham!”
