This guy will likely emigrate here.
He has all the makings of first-class daytime TV ambulance chaser.
To: BipolarBob
He is busy tracking down the descendents of Pontious Pilate now.

To: Borges
He wasn’t read his Miranda rights, for starters.

What if the same fact pattern occurred last year, rather than two millennia ago? The Roman Empire dissolves in the interim, with Israel and Italy gaining sovereignty over Judea and Rome, respectively. Israel's constitution adopts the Jewish laws that the Romans permitted in their province of Judea last year. Italy adopts the civil law system in force in the Roman Empire last year. All the protagonists were hit by lightning around Easter of this year and are unavailable to testify.
Does the plaintiff have a cause of action? ... theology aside.

Hey Deeetroit, here’s a candidate for your next “mayor.”
To: Kennard
Pretty much everything would be barred by soverign immunity, actually.
Also, what standing does he have to sue? Does he claim to be the Nazarine’s next of kin?

Tiberius could not be reached for comment, and calls to Pontius Pilate have thus far not been returned.

I like his theory that Republic of Italy is the legal successor of Tiberius' Roman Empire - because it uses a code law which is based on the Napoleonic Code which in turn is based on the Justinian Code, which was promulgated 500 years after Tiberius.
I suspect he and some of our more Alex Jonesy FReepers hang out on the same websites.
To: Borges
Better be rounding up some Romans with that. Maybe there’s a Pontius Pilate around somewhere as well.

Since the Roman government persisted in the Byzantine Empire, which was succeeded by the Ottomans, who were overthrown by Mustapha Kemal, it follows that he should actually be suing the Turkish government.

That’s true. Even the Catholic Church has had some trouble controlling them and has had to excommunicate certain “leaders.” It may be harder for Protestant churches, because Protestants can bud off and form new churches fairly easily but at the same time there’s no authority to tell them this isn’t okay.
We need a standard of Christian orthodoxy for Africa. I feel bad for Africans, because a lot of them simply want to believe in something that will free them from fear (of witches and witch-doctors, for example) but Christians unfortunately have let the African church get too “acculturated.”
